SideWinder: It's Only the Beginning

The SideWinder X6 Keyboard is the first keyboard to join the popular SideWinder family of gaming products. Established in 1995 and revived in 2007, the SideWinder line is known for its top-notch PC gaming peripherals, including mice, game pads, joysticks and steering wheels.

I hope this means we are in store for more joysticks!!!!

I heard they stoppped making joysticks because the profit margin was so small.

Unless someone has a different reason?

What I have never been able to figure out is why Microshaft didn't sell the joystick business as a going concern. I would have happily paid another $50 on top of the asking price for a MSFFB2. At one stage, they were bidding $200 for used ones on Ebay.

What I heard was MS had stopped producing Sidewinder FFB sticks, because of some patent infringement, with Immersion company, regarding the use of FFB...

Just been googling it, and look here: Microsoft and the force-feedback technology firm, Immersion, appear to have come to final terms after six years of suing each other. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/27/microsoft_settles_with_immersion_again/), this dated august 27th, 2008. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

w00t!?
(How come I know of Immersion? My Guillemot FFB uses its software, legally that is... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif)

From that picture it looks like they are trying to compete directly with the Saitek line of gaming keyboards, i.e.

http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/cykeyv2.htm

Anyone ever tried that keyboard? I've thought about ordering one a few times...

I haven't tried the Saitek keyboard but I love my Logitech G15, paired with my Razor Lachesis mouse..

I was not aware of why MS stopped doing one if not the best FFB joystick in the world

Now correct me if I'm wrong but XBOX 360 also use immersion technology

You're probably be right. Maybe MS did the right thing there from the start?
But, like said, I heard they stopped producing FFB's for that reason, I'm not sure and could very well be very wrong... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

Good Googa Mooga, I wish like crazy they would make their Sticks again!!! I LOVED my old trusty Microsoft FF2! I had to give it up when the buttons quit functioning after years of heavy gaming. now I have a Logicrap Force 3d Pro and it is NOWHERE near the quality of Microsoft!
