View Full Version : Anticheat software possibility

All right, I've been giving it quite a bit of thought, and have a very (very) rough idea as to how such a system would be constructed.

Before I start anything, though, I want to make sure it's viable, and I need some volunteers. What I'll ask you to do is very very simple, and will take less than 5 minutes.

I'm looking for people who aren't interested in partisan bickering over mods this vs mods that.

I'd like a mix of people with soundmod and those without, as well as people on different operating systems.

If you're interested, please post in this thread and I'll start a private discussion in a couple of days.

Thanks

The cheat-users rarely step out into the light. Especially not if you want to steal their toys.

Perhaps this should be also raised at SimHQ ?

Unfortunately with the way this statement is worded, you can not discuss it in any way, shape or form here.70 views and 3 responses.Better to try at sim.hq or the 1C forum.I hope whatever you are working on works out.

Hmmmm this is a grey area considering the spirit behind the post
............................

The bright side is that this community has proven time and time again that it is more than capable of coming up with something good for the sim... I was always amazed at the things we do have here that had nothing to do with modding the sim but working within the confines of it's closed architecture.. like MM, The UQMG, the DCG, Mat Manager, Stab & IL2 manager, HBs viewer, sturmolog, the MLR,IL2 sticks.. and I could go on and on for several more lines...

OK.. since I haven't heard back from anyone else yet... I'll do this. Just post in this thread if you want to participate in the discussion.. na85 will include you in the PT... I have edited my comments on the subject matter in my above post to reflect what I just wrote.. so this is just to let na85 know that you are willing to discuss it n a PT.. this is NOT the discussion thread so a simple I'm in will suffice... nothing more is needed.

Sort of version checker would work best, check if the server and client have the same FM, however I'm not sure if that can be easily (or at all) implemented. Reliable version checking would enable mod users and online competitive dogfighting point w***s to coexist =)

That was my original intent. Thanks BC for keeping it open. If other mods wish to lock it, that's their prerogative but know that stifling discussion can also hinder a solution.

Thanks to all that have volunteered so far, I'll wait a bit more for volunteers before starting a PT.

I should say this: I'm not going to judge. If you use soundmod or not, that's fine. I can recognize that some like it, feel it's ok, and others do not.

The purpose of such an application is not to persecute, but to act as version control.

Before you get too far down the road:

I'm making the assumption here that most onliners use hyperlobby to connect to servers.

Have you considered asking Jiri (hyperlobby inventor) if he can adapt his program to do that??

Back in the day when everyone flew Janes WW2 Fighters, he came up with a way (using the hyperlobby interface) to prevent players who modded their planeset from joining ANY server when using HL.

Yes, Jiri could of course do that. Drawback being that either Jiri's server (that has more than enough to do with 1000+ online) has to police all clients or the P2P capability of the HL client has to be expanded to enable host/player policing. Another thing you have to consider is *not taking sides* on the issue. Although JV44, The Redwulf Squadron (myself included) are strictly non-mod, I see no reason why Jiri should side with the no-mod only crowd nor do I see any reason anybody else should. That said, I do think that giving a host the option of no-mod/mod-only/only-my-mods/I-don't-give-a-hoot, is the way to go.

I'd thought about that, and I haven't ruled out the possibility, but since you can direct-connect to an IL2 server, it would be pretty easy to bypass that protection.

Correct, HL check will not stop it, since quiet a few join thru ASE or.. can go via IP.. Not 100% stop per say..

As far as project goes, hats off to you and good luck na85. I`ll be in touch http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
