I fly the 109 and I love the new effects of the patch with regards to ground handeling. But Ive noticed two things different from IL2: One is that you don't need the brakes to steer anymore, and two, that the tailwheel locking mechanism don't seem to make any difference. Is this a bug?

thanks

don't ask me, but they give you this feature for no reason at all cause there's no difference with it locked or unlocked.

When the tail wheel is unlocked, it's easier to turn the plane on a dime while taxiing. It has no effect on the take-off or landing behaviour of the planes though.

Hey John, I tried and I don't seem to get any difference. I fly the 109 though. I would think it would help directional stability on take off and landing if tailwheel is locked. Funny.

That's the point, it doesn't /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif The only effect is has is when you wanna turn the plane on the ground.

It's a BUG (on the P-47 anyway).
I have the original pilot's manual for the P-47 and it clearly states that the tail wheel must be locked for both take-offs and landings. It states that on take-off you must "line up the plane with the runway, then roll forward far enough to straighten the tailwheel, then lock it."

Come to think about it, why would ANY plane have a locking feature on the tailwheel if it was of no use?

Pre patch i always used the tail wheel lock. when playing with tourque and gyro effects on it kept my nose straight until my rudder had enough authority. otherwise i was dancing on one wheel and playing dodgeball with the tower... post patch it doesn't seem to help this effect
