2 quick Q?

1 .. How will my rig fair?
P4-2Ghz..1GB-DDR..80Ghz-HD..GF4-TI4200-128Mb

2. On one of the screen shots (more than one) but one stood out, foreground plane on deck to the piolts left 2 ships on another carrier, and you could see the clear reflection of the carrier on the sea ?? should this be so or a bit of Hollywood? and does having these reflections slowdown the FR?

I tried to raise awareness of the fact that ocean water is not smooth on the scale needed to reflect ships like that, but pond water is. The grafix engine was made for pond water. There is NO realism here in the New Water. Well we got what we asked for. I have about as much luck getting people to talk about this as I have getting "antiwar" people to talk about Kerry the new pro~war candidate. Its called a Pink Elephant, something we are not supposed to see (and talk about).

...and no white caps on the ocean waves in the screen shots so far. I think they wasted all their time doing Fake Water for the moron game review rags. They could have approximated high framerate overcast clouds just by increasing the number of classical FB clouds on the new FP maps (my olde ATI~9200 with default CD drivers does not even notice if I turn detailed FB clouds on or off).

But then I really should wait till I get FP before Whining. I do know that Classical FB clouds are so smooth and sexy. All they had to do is make them larger and put more of them on the FP maps. Even make a "cloud density" input, where you go from 0 clouds to dozens per 10 kilometers square. My ATI~9200 could handle that, FB clouds are so high framerate (and 3+ years old too). That would form a good overcast, with occasional holes in the clouds. Very immersive. Also consider the shadows under the clouds....classic FB clouds with high numbers would make the ground shady just like under real overcast. As it stands now the New Water won't be useful to the majority of simmers.

Lexx - only you could turn water into whine.

perhaps early Euro release version was intended for pundits to chew on while US release coincides with the patch/cure for more deserving fanboys http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

And Kerry is not prowar he is anti terrorist and stuck with the biggest fiasco in history to mop up...too bad this thread will soon be locked..damm politics and politicians to he111.

I'd say IBTL, but that is getting used a bit too often on threads that, often, never do get locked.

Maybe the reflections are too strong but considering I won't be able to run it at perfect with enjoyable FPS during battles, the reflections won't bother me...

me again , http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I just seen a new screenshot of a carrier on near pond water, not waves just a slight ripple.

Surely the sea is never as calm as it is in the screenshots? nice effect seeing the reflection and all that , so I guess the guy who posted the shot has a very decent graphics card. Yet looking at this very large carrier even if it is slowly moving through the water, it does not have many wake or is it wake from the stern and "wash" from the sides.. It really is pond calm water ..

I guess I'll get the replies that the sea is calm and it can get stormy and high waves .. ou should see the sea in (silent hunter 3), but with something that big moving through the water the least you should see in a modern sim with new or new gen graphics cards is some water movement like the wash as a ship moves through the water ...

I gues it you turn off the high water effect you'll just be left with what look from somescreen shots I seen a solid blue mass?

Yeah, should be no reflections in the sea. I think you can turn this off in the ini file though (hopefully).

On a side note, I did see perfectly flat water from my ship (CV-41) only once and it was spooky to see miles and miles of perfectly flat water. Almost surreal. Wish I took a picture. We were simply floating off shore to conserve fuel. No wind for flight ops anyway.

I believe we were in the straights somewhere near the middle east during the 80s. I tend to forget.

Exactly the word I was searching for. Thanks.

Actually, in old photos you can see a dark reflected fuzzy mass of ship in the water, so reflection technically does happen on "average" ocean water, but only on very rare occasions is the polished MIRROR finish we have now to be seen in real life. We tell ourselves we want "real-sim" but we actually want surreal-sim. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I think teh Game Review rags like the New Surrealistic Water.

Here is something worth Dev Time...But maybe for BoB.

Given the *max* FB cloud draw distance of 20km, and that cloud above is a good 15km across, that is not possible over the FB or FP I assume.
