View Full Version : Oleg, Aircraft Loadout Options (An idea, w/mock-up)

I know that the developers' cannot put every possible loadout combination into the game. Due to our own mission-specific preferences, I would like loadouts and A/C Settings to be totally customizable and savable.

It's kind of hard to explain in words, so as a picture is worth a thousand words, I made one. This is just a mock-up, but would be my ideal loadout selection screen.

It's pretty straight forward. Fuel is on sliders, and for FM reasons could be loaded differently in different tanks (As in real life!. I sure hope we can pump fuel between tanks in BOB).

The "Bindings" are key-bindings. Currently, it's limited to weapon 1, 2, 3, 4, and 1+2. You can see there's more key bindings, and you can select which does exactly what.
Also, there's more convergence settings, for possible loadouts. The "U" button there un-selects all the bindings for that particular selection (to speed up re-organizing process).
Also, as you can see, I allowed all areas to be empty, showed by the empty slot that would normally be MG131; I've allways wanted this, as theyre just pea-shooters and thus, basically dead weight.

This can be great for selecting exactly which bomb to drop(IE: on a plane with one on each wing, drop em one at a time), or even having un-balanced loadouts for mission-specific reasons.

All settings, including skin selection and convergence settings are saved into the loadout selection. This is good, because you can have one complete setup for dogfight, different types of coops, etc... It gets annoying having to change my convergence and skin settings constantly.

Sorry for the size, but I couldn't make it tiny for the 56k'ers but still easily legible. It's 1152x864, a good resolution (The one I play at).

I finally present to you, the mock-up:

Edit: btw, if you run at resolution below 1280x1024, try saving file and viewing in full-screen /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

Another reason why it would be nice is it would give us the opportunity to develop reconaisance missions for the AI. Recon planes such as the 109F-6 only mounted the cowl guns.

Very good idea !!! If not possible in FB or FB - Addon (but I hope it is), Oleg should consider it for the BoB - Sim.

But to choose different loadouts and fuel options must have the correct influence on plane weight and FM, otherwise it is only eye candy!

Heh, the main reason for this is just that /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif To be able to tweak the plane (and thus, the FM) accordingly to mission-specific items; Like carrying less guns to conserve fuel, or having un-balanced loadouts, for example, in order to do some mud-moving as well as have extended flight-time.

Good one! Man I suggested that already, but with this nice pic it's so easy to understand. I also suggested an "ammo belter" there, basically another screen which lets you belt every gun installed in the plane individually, even some crazy things like left gun only HE and right gun only AP, 8 or 16 round sets. Of course ammo count should be selectable, too. Another thing I had in that suggestion was racks. First select a specific rack, than select what's on it. So you'd first select a ETC 501, then a SC250 on it, or a ER4, then 4 SC50 / 4 AB50 or whatever. Kinda tree structure.

Very Thorough (that's the right word?) but, might be too complex for Noob's. Maybe add a switch in the allready present armament menu that says "advanced" or something so we aces can acces this screen and the Noob's can still have an easy time?

I think another good idea would be in the difficulty setting having ''un historical loadouts''

so you can overload it with bombs, arcade game style

and for historical armaments you can get more variants, as said before such as recon variants

That is extremely cool!

Be nice to have the option to assign a color and number instead of using the old squadron 1, number X system...but this is definately a huge improvement over the arming screen we have now.

I would love to see this implemented.

I don't think it would have to be limited. Just have a pre-set line of loadouts, and make it an option in diff settings to use non-historical loadouts.

and picking ammo belt loadout isnt ahistorical, ud use different mix depending on your mission if u could.

If not implemented in any patch, than at least it should be taken in consideration for BOB, this idea is to good to let it be forgotten.

Would be nice if I didn't have to use tracers on the aircraft or could designate bullet/ammo subtypes (HE, AP, API, etc)

Russian aircraft require skill to fly.
German aircraft require ten times that skill, and one hundred times the patience!
