Hello,
I've recently purchased il2 forgotten battles, and now I would like to buy the ace pack for it. I did a search on the web and all I can find are some patches for it. So can anyone please tell me where can I get the actual ace pack???

That's an older version of the game, and it will be harder to find.

Everyone is now playing IL-2 1946. It's a DVD which contains all the games ever released (Forgotten Battles, AEP, Pacific fighters, etc.) You can find it for $10-15 on Amazon, or $10 from Steam (direct download).

Once you do get the DVD, be sure to patch up (4.08, 4.09, 4.09 skins, 4.10, 4.101) and join everyone online via Hyperlobby.

Just to avoid confusion, 1946 is all the content in the series as one game, including the improved flight model, improved handling, more planes, more maps, more ground objects than you can find in all previous versions as well. Do not look for different games to install from 1946, it is all in one.

I've seen it on Amazon for under $10 not including shipping.

Just to back up what these guys are saying... IL-2 1946 is the ONLY version of the game you need these days. It has everything.

Thanks guys,

The only reaon I did'nt buy the 1946 version was because i was afraid my pc could'nt handle it.
I have winxp, intel dual core 1.8GHZ, onboard GEforce 7050 video, soundblaster live.
If you guys think my system is ok for 1946, will the graphics of this version be better (cuz I'm not crazy about fb version- trees especially suck)??

Your onboard video is weak but a better one shouldn't run too much. The 2nd digit (you have 7050) is the power where the 1st is the series, an #050 card is weak but beats a #000. Crank the graphics down!

Your CPU is just fine though hoping you have at least 1G RAM and better with 2G.

I run medium settings on a Sempron 2600 with 2G and GeForce 7600GS -- middleweight video a few years ago.

Here's a site that does price comparisons for some examples. (http://www.pricewatch.com/video_cards/)

Thanks.
But if I decide to upgrade my graphics card, then I might as well go for even newer game like birds of prey, or even upcoming cliff of dover?!

What do you think? Would there be a leap in graphic quality with just the 1946 version?

I have 1.5GB mem and the framerate is excellent with all graphics maxed when playing forgotten battles (althoug I don't find the look of trees/landscape that good)

Get IL2 1946 as well, its only about 8 / $8 and an incredible sim/game.

The other games you mention are about 5 times the price.

IL2 1946 is not much more resource heavy than IL2 forgotten battles, its the same game engine, just with all the addons rather than just the one you are talking about.

If you buy IL2 1946 you are getting forgotten battles plus all the addons available. (Aces EP, Pacific fighters, Pe2 etc etc)

If you buy the AEP you are getting forgotten battles with one single addon for about hte same price.

Its a no brainer, get 1946.

Thanks,

Wish i had consulted with you guys sooner.
Already had bought forgotten battles last week.

Oh well it was only 10 dollars. Do you think it would still be worth it for me to buy 1946 at this point? (The only way i would be interested at this point is if the graphics would be better!)

Graphics are a little better and you'll need 1946 if you want to play online against other people. You should be able to run 1946 just fine, just don't expect to be able to crank the graphics all the way up, med to high depending on resolution (i.e. no "Perfect Mode"). Don't get birds of prey, it's a totally separate game made by others with a license for the name only. 1946 will be totally worth it, a ton more planes and maps, and as I said online play.

@vracan62

Hey mate, I'm in the same page as all others here

get "IL-2 1946" (version 4.07m)

apply patch 4.08m,
then 4.09m,
followed by 4.10
and finally 4.10.1

Join the online MADNESS!

forget about "forgoten battles" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif and those 10 dollars, let bygones be bygones, spend another 10 in the real pack that is 1946

literally tons of planes and maps, I can't even begin to describe the pain of getting the patches and tunning Forgotten Battles and it's addons

and about those other games

IL-2 BOP, is a console port, and doesn't compear to 1946 at all

and the new IL-2 COD I'm afraid it won't run well on your current PC

Thanks guys,

You got me thinking, maybe I will...

btw how much hard drive space will I need?

The initial install before adding updates and patches is about 4.5 GB.

Aside from the actual graphic improvements (IL2_1946 uses better clouds for example) you also get newer maps such as Slovakia Summer (4.09 patch) with way more detailed buildings terrain and objects.

When you combine the graphic improvements with a new map with more detailed objects you get quite a difference.

Screenshot from Slovakia Summer (note the churchs and other new buildings) ...

There should be a big leap in quality with just IL2:1946 if you spend even $40-$60 on a decent budget card. But for sure get something on the Cliffs of Dover hardware requirements supported list just to be able to run newer games.

I'm surprised you can max the graphics, what resolution are you running? Well, the trees and landscape in IL2 are never great by cinematic standards but pretty good to great compared to a lot of other combat flight sims from before.

Birds of Prey is NOT IL2 series but it does use SOME of the IL2 game engine. It's got eye candy but otherwise it deserves a coin slot like any good arcade.

Me thinks the step from FB to 1946 does have an impact on performance.

It's the step to the changed FM, that came with 4.01m.

It's been a while since that happened, but I do think I remember lesser FPS due to that.
(My memory might be failing here though...)

Yep, they removed the "autorudder" for 4.1(I think), added more torque and apparently put in some things the the game hadnt had before... But apparently those dont effect the AI so the performance decrease is probably not noticeable. Those detailed later maps such as Kurland, Kiev, Slovakia and Bessarabia however will effect the FPS and a lot. The clouds too, though for single player you can still choose to use the old clouds.

Thanks alot guys for all your input. I appreciate it.
I'm now starting to shop around for a more decent graphics card.
BTW, do you guys know if 1946 and forgotten battles both support 3 display monitors?

p.s. to M_gunz: resolution is set at 1024x768. (I'm surpised too that fps is always over 25fps with my current sytem on forgotten battles)

With a really good card you can run resolutions, AA and Trilinear to make that look like chalk on a sidewalk. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Your graphics card will be fine for playing IL2 1946, although maybe not at the highest graphics settings.

Try it out, if you need better get another, dont get a gfx card first thats just daft. IL2 1946 = 8 vs new Gfx card = anything over 50

still like to know, does forgotten battles or 1946 have support for 3-displays??

Cuz if it does I may go for a graphics card that has outputs for 3 displays.

More patches at Mission4Today: Patches for IL2 FB and PF (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&c=564)
You will probably have to register there before being able to download them.

Thanks guys.

But I've already installed v4.08m server patch found on ubi.com site. Was that a mistake??
If yes what should I do?

yes, you want client patches.

install the client 4.08 over the top, might fix it, if not you'll have to start again.

server patches are for a dedicated server, not for playing.

if it fixes it, just install the rest now, from either M4T or simHQ. making sure to install only the client versions.

after installing each patch, i would recommend starting the game, and checking before moving on to the next patch.

when you start the game it tells you what version you are on in the bottom left of the screen on the loading pic.
