Hi all,

I recently visited this museum and I would suggest that anyone who has an interest in the Mosquito and other de havilland aircraft should also visit.

It is situated just off the M25 (North of London) and within picturesque surroundings.

The prototype was flown from this location in from memory in 1941. It was some miles away from the original de havilland factory for secrecy reasons. The first three production aircraft were flown from an adjacent farmer's field http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

The site is full of atmosphere with guys of wartime age as guides willing to
chat and provide info.

The prototype is there and others. Here's a link.

I have some photos from my visit. If anyone is interested I will be happy to post.

Best Regards,
MB_Avro.

One of the pics is the interior of a Horsa glider as used at Arnhem. the rest are of Mosquitos. The yellow Mosquito is the prototype.

This is the edge of the hanger within which the prototype and other bits and pieces are located. In the background is Salisbury Hall. This is an old country home and is today as it was in WW2.

The museum is off the usual tourist track and full of atmosphere.

Looks like a fun place. How many Mosquitos do they have?

Sadly, there are a number of de havilland planes that are not hangered. eg the Vampire.

The Vampire jet first flew in 1943 and yet
because of a lack of funding such aircraft are exposed to the merciless British weather http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Yes, these photos are genuine. Bennett as a squad mate I am somewhat disappointed at your response. Are you English and do you like warm beer?

Well, old chap.....I was only trying to maintain standards. By your response it seems that you are insisting that the photos are genuine. I would have to see them myself to agree their authenticity. Perhaps you could show me the hard photos in some reasonable place........

As for 'warm beer' I will have you know that I attended the Marstons Pedigree Ale school of drinkmanship and I passed with distinction.....

hi all,

Bennett is a difficult fellow English squadmate...I meet him for a beer every now and then. He has a matron to look after his misplaced needs. May I offer him to another squad? He showers every month and his wife visits him every year.

I await your replies please.

Best Regards,
MB_Avro.

Post a pic of his matron - I might consider it if certain standards are met.

Hi all,

This is a pic of my fellow squadmate's matron.

MB_Bennett has a difficult and a somewhat restrained existance but his matron sees to his every need. She mashes his spuds and grinds his turnips.

All our squdmates admire his fortitude. What a hero http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif. Pic attached.

Hmmm well maybe you need to brush up on your reading skills. In the first post he says just off the m25 . Now i dont even live in england but i know where the m25 is. And the fact the website is english i am hoping your just being stupid. I am baffled as to why you would think these pics are not genuine ?
