My life with my old Duron850 is about to end.

No more shall we play together, my precious PC133 Ram. Will you forget me?

Oh, well, I think that she was cheating on me anyway.

But look out! 64bit technology is on its way to my doorstep.

ooh, you getting one of those new fangled AMD doofas? I was tempted but I would wait until the technology, motherboards etc, matures a bit. Even tho, should be a v.v.nice box. You'll have to grab some pics of it.

Bader, you already have a super hot rig, no need for you to update. However, for those that don't already have P4 3.2ghz systems and are looking to upgrade now, the 64bit AMD FX AND P4/5 EE is the only way to go. If you get a complete system then the cost difference about $300.00 is minimal for the return on the dollar.

I just got back from Comp USA and they have the P4 3.2ghz FSB 800MHZ OC to 3.8GHZ AND 950 FSB, but it was not able to complete with the AMD FX system they had right next to it. The difference was clear. Both were hot rigs, but the new AMD FX was just white hot! S!

Sure will, Badger. I read some of the early benchmarks on the thing are doing real well. I guess it will be like I am a bete-tester of sorts. I'm stepping out on faith.

Guy,s on these new AMD computers , I would wait a little while and let the bugs get worked out in the chipsets and mobo,s.. before I went and put out a lot of money.

More that once I have had to work with computers that where new with first run drivers that just don't add up..

And it is not fun..

If you like to do stuff like this then by all means get one.. But if you are not very good with computers and Op systems and are just learning, well I would let the bugs get worked out before I bought one.

Just my thoughts on this.

What bugs? Those are just rival rumors nothing more. The rival says ohh this new thingy for xxx company has bugs, just so they can get people to wait until 'their' new thingy is ready and hit the market. I have not heard one credible complaint from OEM users about seroius unaddressed issues. Idoubt that Intel and AMD will drop the ball here.

It makes no sense from Intel or AMD to put out a new product like this and not 'actively' address any serious chipsets, mobos, drivers or other types of issues that may arise. I love the people that run around screaming the sky is falling, of course it is. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

BlackPhenix , What bugs.. well after 20 some years doing this I can say what is up and will happen.. and there will be bugs just like all the new systems.. Now if you want one great , go for it.. but to the noobs out there who don't know , take your time and wait. Or buy a system that has been out for awhile and solid.

This is what I do , build gaming systems , and High end computers for the people who can afford them.

And yes there will be problems with the new chip-sets.

I always wait till the Bios updates are out on a site before I buy a new type Mobo, And if you will go to the boards on these new AMD,s when they come out you will see what I am talking about.

People saying AMD has bug is who just bought his new (expensive unreasonably) Intel system and can't afford his pizza now.

Computer is average (1.4 Ghz TBird, 1/2 Gig ram,64MB Nvidia Vid)
but the kicker is the visual and sound. Since I've worked for an AV company for 15 years I get deals, plus I know stuff, anyway I have a 6X8` screen in my basement and a Barco Data 500 Crt projector displaying a 1000 ansi lumen image (very bright) on it, as well a 2000 watt sound system that is comprised of 4 500 watt stereo amps powering 9 speakers in 5.1 DTS, use the digital output of my SB card and a decoder to feed the various amps, as well four of those channels are through EQ's, and the subwoofer is 15" under my coffee table. Big sound, big picture. I am now working on a virtual cockpit to put in front, have got the guts so far, rudder pedals and a real yoke, just working on the keyboard interface.

BTW, does anyone have any experience with Creative Megaworks speakers? I thinking of getting the Megaworks THX 650 6.1 speakers in a few months, probably around Christmas, and would like to hear what others thought about them.

thanks guys, some nice boxes floating around here /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I love the wooden cockpit, great stuff !

I would be interesting to get an official poll about what CPU's and amount of RAM people are using.

What sort of 3D Mark 2001SE scores are you guys getting?

I got around 13500, but that was with 512MB (PC2100) of RAM, 266MHz FSB and SB Live! Value. Haven't tested this current setup in 3D Mark 2001, but in 2003 I got scores around 4900.

psychopetey - that big screen sounds superb, would love to see pics of it. My mate has got a 50" plasma thats gorgeous, and he uses his Mac on it!

3DMark 2003 sounds pretty heavy, will give it a go in a minute and see what I get (fingers crossed)

Re: the Megaworks, I did consider them but thought they were (are) pretty expensive, esp. considering that you are entering 'real' hi-fi territory around that price mark. (admittedly, it would be nowhere near mid or high end but prob better than computer stuff?) If anyone has the Megaworks shout up!

My system is an HP pavilion 751N. It has a single 512 RAM card. I have the standard video card that the computer ships with. I increased the Virtual Memory to the MAX setting at 4069 RAM on the Hard Drive. The game hardly played until I did that. I know from reading this board that I need higher RAM and a decent video card.

Adlabs,

The second Saitek is just a spare (long story), but once I get my Yoke (For P-38 and hopefully the Beau etc.) I will put my X-45 on the side there and the spare will go in by bedroom with my old system.

Well I try avoid using cheesy pick-up lines. I typically go straight for the gusto, and simply offer to buy them a drink. After nine or ten of those I just start talking in jibberish to them. They think I'm talking normal, and that they're just smashed, and can't drive home. Thats when I offer, and they typically sleeping on the street is worse than taking me back to their place...OHHH computer system.

Let me see I think I have a joystick around here somewhere...
