Hey, all, Noob here.

I bought the original Il-2 last year at a yard sale and played it with the keyboard all this time (too tough). Never had a sim before so it was way cool even without a stick - especially with Sturmovik being as good as it is.

Just got 1946 and have upgraded it to 4.08m and got the saitek aviator. Wow! And my fingers and keyboard thank me.

In all this time since last year, and in installing and re-installing 1946, I still have the same problem with a number of gunsights being offset to the right. I have tried numerous suggestions I've seen on the boards here (shift/F1, etc.) but the sights do not move.

I'm running XP with an Nvidia 6800 and lots of memory - everything else seems to work OK.

I appreciate any help. Nice to know there are a lot of flyers out there.

In game, press Shift-F1 to shift between gunsight view and normal view.

Just in case....SHIFT+F1 (hold SHIFT, then hit F1).

That is the default setting. When in-game, go to CONTROLS and make sure the keystroke command for "Toggle Gunsight" did not get overwritten or is missing.

don't forget ctrl+d for removing sight covers from some pacific aircraft.

Thanks, guys, but I've tried all that. Toggle gunsight I have assigned to 'backspace' and it does change the fixed/gyro/fixed & gyro views at least on a few AC I've tried it on.

I'll keep working on it.

The one you've mapped backspace to is "Toggle sight mode" which is for turning on auto tracking for the level bombing sight, also it toggles the reflector gyro sight for the P51-D20NA and that plane only.

What you need to press is "Toggle gunsight" under "views" section, this will shift your head in the virtual cockpit so that you're looking through the gunsight for planes that have the gunsight offset to one side. Check that you have that mapped to shift-f1 and try again. Better yet - map it to your joystick, it's very useful in most planes for looking around obstructing cockpit frames.

Thanks for that suggestion. I'm not at the computer until later, but I will try it then.

Thanks again!

Ctrl+E has always worked fine for me.

I take it then that Ctrl+E is not my best option for gunsight centering?

Doth mine astigmatic eyes mislead, or might I see the barest whisper of the forward portion of a camels' foot?

And to answer your question, "Yes, I am."
