I saw a post over at another websites IL2/FB/PF forums, where a few guys chimed in about how terribly the IAR-80 handled and the seemed to blame it on too much torque. I thought "Wow, it must be bad" so I immediately dropped the internet and brought up QMB to fly the IAR myself, to see how bad it really was. Not only did I not find it to be bad, I actually enjoyed myself flying it. Except for the fact I had chosen LaGG-3-4s to fly against and Oleg never fixed the DM for the LaGG. And it was frustrating trying to even scratch those titanium birds with the MGs on the IAR. Other than that, it was hard to see how it was such a terrible handler!! Nice plane except for the wimpy MGs.

Fly the IAR-81c, it's got two 20mm Cannons i believe.
But yeah the machine guns are pretty weak, but it's a nice plane overall.

Not a bad plane at all. Just weak firepower with mg's only.

I tend to look at it as the poor man's 190. It handle's similarly I find, and has similar advantages (cept for speed).

It has a good roll rate, it zoom climbs pretty well, and BnZing with is pretty nice. A great aircraft in early war scenarios.

Long live the **** planes!

Seriously J8As vs. CR. 42 is alot of fun. Throw in a few IARs, a Hurri, maybe a G.50 and its alot of fun.

^^^ My oath Cragger, cr@pplane fights are among the best. Cr 42 is IMO a good composition, the manouverability of a biplane and the weight, engine and speed of a monoplane. Explodes when you look at it though http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif, Gladiator is much sturdier than that.

The IAR-80/81's are nice planes and very capable but your test I think missed the point. The IAR's suffer uncontrollable torque on takeoffs. Once up they are fine but I have yet to get one off the ground in 4.01m. Last CW mission I flew half the IAR's crashed on takeoff and the other half had to use the engine in bursts while taking off to avoid running off the side. And no, locking the tail wheel isn't an option on that plane so no help there.
