The "files.SFS" file is the only difference, besides the renamed readme###.rtf files. I looked and compared every single file, in all folders because I pre-extract my patches to a seperate folder before install. I also just install by manually overwriting. With the only truly different file being the main SFS file, this means that only FM or DM changes might have been made. Little extra tweaks probably made at the last minute. The DGEN, Samples, Campaigns and other folders have a newer time stamp, but the files inside them do not. So the only individual file that has a different size and time stamp is the one I mentioned. It took a whiule to compare every individual file but I guess I have no life!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif All I did was to overwrite the old files.SFS file and put in the newer readme files ( although they are the same too ) and now I'm patched.

This just means that the 4.01 patch could have been much smaller for those who already had 4.00.

^ Agreed. If you want a quicker way of comparing folders, mortoma, download a file/folder comparison tool such as "Beyond Compare". With that, you can quickly check files in any two folders (even remote ones, on FTP sites etc) from simplly checking timestamps, through CRC checksums and bit level analysis.

I use it to keep "all" my PF versions seperate and I can quickly move fowards and backwards, patch wise, easily with such a tool.

Ta,
Norris

PS: You're right. That is the only file different.

Mortoma,

Are their skins folders and blanks for the Mustang III and P-38L_late? Obviously not, if those files are unchanged.

I know that and they probably knew that too but since the 4.0 was not "sanctioned", they didn't want to help us that much. I'm just glad I have high-speed cable internet!! I DL files like that in 15 minutes or so.

Like I said, the two patches are carbon copies. The exact same number of files and each file is exactly the same size and time stamp. The folders have newer time stamp but the files inside them are
perfect clones, down to every last file.

The readmes are exactly the same but have newer name. The "files.SFS" is exactly the same size but has newer time stamp. I'm beginning to wonder if it too is also excatly the same as the old one but changed only so you see version 4.01m during loading. Possible that even FMs and DMs are exactly the same. That would mean it's the same exact patch totally except for seeing the newer version number during loading. And it being an official and sanctioned version.

Just make the skins folder. I had to do it for the H81A-2 with PF. No big deal

So the only change may have been the file that says 4.0m to 4.1m at the start screen. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Rick </div></BLOCKQUOTE>I'm not sure but I wonder a good bit about it. Still very happy with the patches anyway. I was only slightly disappointed there were not more new planes but love it otherwise!!!

Bah! And to think I did an entire reinstall. I feel like a right twonk! At least the PC got a good defragging.

Actually, you're "fragging" it by taking big programs off and putting them back on again. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Rick </div></BLOCKQUOTE> </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Oh really?? What might those changes be??? All the files are the same size and time stamp except for files.SFS. And the exact same number of files. Readmes are only renamed. They might have made some subtle tweaks in FMs and DMs, plus the version number change, that's about it. If they debugged any bugs discovered in the unauthorized 4.0 leak, they sure are keeping them hushed up. But hwy would they?? They usually brag and gloat about FM changes and bug fixes. But no mention of any of that.

1 specific is SBD and torque effect when on the carriers...you no longer basically run right of the side of the deck in 3 ft lol...small changes but definitly different than just a version number change as the post I replied to. FM resides in the files.sfs file http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I agree, I noticed the torque is less strong and when doing carrier take off, planes don`t tend to get nose heavy and hit the runway with the propellors if you`re not careful.

So yeah, mostly DM changes/tweaks from 4.0m to 4.01m.

I`m pretty satisfied with 4.01m so far http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I had airstart single missions for Dauntless which I made in in 3.04m. In 4.00m I had to struggle very much to bring the aircraft back under control when mission began. In 4.01m it's much better again.
