I ought have chosen my username to have been Captain Prune
as in the misfortunate WW2 RAF character

I want to know your embarassing prangs crashes and your heroic returns home.

Some of my crashes

1. Coming into strafe a target clipped the prop.Engine bust
continued to fly on as a glider
2.Gliding home in an IL 2 made the runway gear down landed safely
3. take off mishap with some TB3s blew all the others up.Debris on runway didn't clear.I-16s started rolling they crashed too.

Hmmm...well there was that time in the Crimea when I took a direct flak burst to the engine of my Stuka. The engine was rendered useless immediately. Luckily,I had enough altitude that I glided back behind friendly lines. I didn't make it back to our aerodrome, but I managed a successful landing "in the field".

I remember once, in the Smolensk reigon, I was cruising in my He-111 and I had already had a successful mission with my bombs ON THE TARGET!! I was then jumped by four fighters. I dove the 111 to the deck from 3000 meters, pulled a few maneuvers, and managed to give my gunners good enough points to shoot down all four fighters.

Then there was the time I came across twelve He-111's in my IL2 on return from a mission. I blew them all to pieces with the IL2 3M's cannons! It was a blast.

I also remember landing unsucsessfully on a Me-323 with a Brewster and a P-11. That was fun.

Damage, well, I also remember that whenever I have damage on one side of my bomber, it flies toward that side. So I get into side gunner's position, shoot the other side of the aircraft, and zap! I've corrected the weight shift and I'm back on course.

just after the patch accomplished a single player campaign mission and am about to land in a 190. 'gosh, where is all the speed coming from ???'
i touch down safely but am way too fast i need the whole runway to slow down. on the last couple of meters i am about 10km/h fast and think 'just let her roll...' ... straight into an anti aircraft gun just at the end of the runway. doh!

Flying my Me-262 in battle against La-7's. Drew close to one and let rip from about 30ft, the la7 wing sheared off and it started it's slow dive to earth. Suddenly i realised i was going to collide with it, quickly jinked up and lost my left engine nacelle in the collision. The 262 veered sharply to the right and almost stalled, only saved by full opposite rudder and engine powering down with slow correction to the horizontal horizon. Energy started to bleed off fairly fast so with small delicate maneuveurs i started to edge for home. Got jumped by 2 la-5's on the way, friendly flak got one, and i winged the other decimating his wingtip as i jinked in a small high g yo-yo and he descended into my sights - he then buggered off. Spotted the airfield about 2 minutes later, had approx 350ft of altitude left now with a gradually descending rate of about 30ft minute. Deciding between speed or height i compromised by deploying combat flaps and an increase in the throttle (which actually provided no more speed but certainly made me feel better) and began the emergency approach. Approaching the last 50m i noticed an 88 flak gun loom out i was going to collide. Initiated full (landing) flaps and it pushed me up and over the flak gun, then i extended the gear approx 0.5 sec after they locked in the plane touched down and it ran about 100m down the runway before completely stopping! YAY!!!!
I managed to get a track of losing the engine in combat but the landing track is giving me errors and i can't play it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

When making high speed pass on a Stuka, pulling up to avoid collision at the last moment. But the last burst I fire takes off their right wing and the left wing swings up and swats me out of the air just as I pass over it.

Happened twice to me in one day. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

A low strafe run against a gas truck made my hurricane to a model kit.

Hehe, that reminds me...in another (earlier)Stuka mission we were supposed to bomb a train outside Leningrad. Well,we got to the target without much opposition. Feeling smug,I rolled the Stuka into that classic dive, and at the sound of the release horn I released my payload. Then I tried to pull out of the dive. I couldn't! As it turns out, compression had taken grip of my sturdy Stuka, and wouldn't let go. After plowing into the ground,I realised why. Like an idiot,I forgot to set the dive brakes! I should've noticed that the dive down was a little quiet(no siren). Duh! How stupid was that?/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
