View Full Version : New patch killed the F6F?

After installing the patch, I noticed the F6F can barely make it off the carrier. In multiplayer, I need to taxi to the end of an Essex class carrier to take off with no load. Even then, it barely makes it. I can't even get it off the deck of the Carrier in campaign mode with rockets and bombs for the mission. Hope it gets fixed in new patch

this sim (with every new patch) is closer to the real pro simulator....learn to live with that fact and practise...practise...practise...

"Flying at Anchor" (static carrier) is a difficult thing to do. It can be done but is a risky business without some wind over the deck or catapults.

What is sadly missing here is a good wind model and the means to control it. Without wind it may well appear that there is something amiss with the ac power output.

But, not to worry, just stick two carriers end to end and pretend it is just one.

However, wind should be an integral part of a "simulator" that professes to represent WWII PTO carrier aviation.

More to real life?? The Buffalo flies off the deck at 140 km/hr and the Hellcat barely makes 100 km/hr? Its not more realistic. In campaign mode, I have an extra 30 km/h behind me with it moving... and still can't make it with a decent load. Ya wanna make it more realistic?? Give me bow catapults

Misunderstanding?

One wants wind in front of them, not behind, it's airspeed, not groundspeed that will get you airborne.

You probably knew that!

Haven't had any troubles...but they say the F6F and the F4U have troubles getting off the deck. Admittedly I haven't been able to get off a escort carrier yet (although I'm fairly certain thats historical) but I had no trouble with Essex or Lexington classes.

f6f and f4u's what is the score?

I read the post and gave it a try in single mission (easy flight setting).

Now before the 3.03 patch I could get these ships up and off the deck.

Now I get off the deck and get a few yard and plunge into the sea.

F6F (easy flight and unloaded)

I was give an tip a long time ago that when you get off the deck don't pull up (even slightly) just let the plane fly straight to get some speed up, but as soon as you clear the deck lift the gear and then the flaps.

All this I did time and time again, but still these planes plunge into the sea after a few yards.

Can anyone give me a step by step walk through.

This is what Ive been doing someone point out where I am going wrong.

1. Start engine, build up rev's 50% let it sit.
2. Take off flaps.
3. Tail wheel lock.
4. Rev up 110% full power.

5. Chocks away.
6. running up deck, clear the deck, gear up.
7. well I never really get to moving the flaps back up as I am plunging into the sea.

Again all setting are on Easy!

Thanks.

ps.. is it the F2? I go through all the steps above thought once in flight (not diving into the sea) I manually bring up the gear.

I agee with you. Not just take off. the F6F could not take off a static carrier in RL but the plane performs 10-15% less than real life data..but who cares, right.

I have had no probs no that does not make me an experte but I usally sit on the deck and let my engine rev of r a sec then GO

Try the Landing flap setting and don't raise the flaps immediately. Try to get the tail up asap (improve acceleration/lift) - this can be done at 40Km/h with the F4U and 60Km/h for the F6F. You may also have to taxi back to the far end of the deck to get a long enough run.

I've found that leaving the deck with a speedbar reading of 130Km/h usually does the trick.

Cheers

I was finally able to get off the deck with a 1000 lb bomb and rockets (escort mission?) but I was verrrrry careful. I didn't raise my gear until I was climbing and I used take off flaps. My speed off the round down was a hair over 80 mph and I'm sure my wheels got wet. Raising the gear earlier may not work if the flight model is very good, becuase the wheels turn 90 degrees to the slipstream and cause tremendous drag. Not sure if it's so in the game, but should be.

F4U in single mission (moving Carrie take off) - not you nor autopilot (!) can take off with empty plane. Autopilot with F6F can take off with empty plane, but crashes with 2x250lb bombs.
The carrier in these missions is the small one, so maybe this could be the problem. These missions are there to practice take-off, aren't they ?

I had no trouble takeing off with the F6F with 2 500 lb bombs. F6F is alot easier than F4U.

I aimed my nose of the plane at the right corner of the end of the carrior then pull up slightly and change flaps to landing.
On carrior take-off 2 I couldn't stop laughing watching the AI F6F drop like a rock with this payload. It even more funny watching it with 8x the speed.

Hmm Just set up a mission f6F 2x 500lb bombs and rockets taking off from Essex no problems at all. Carrier has to be travelling pretty fast I set flaps for landing and raise gear as soon as I clear deck. No problems at all neither did my AI flight.
Thought the Helly flew luvverly.
