What's the best one you've ever flown online? Tell us about it and what made it so special.

I've flown some good ones online, and some stinkers.

The good ones were usually no-icons, with good weather, and involved intercepting IL2's and other red ground-attack aircraft. That usually led to fighting close to the ground, and a chance for multiple attacks on the ground-attack planes.

The stinkers usually were set at 0-dark-thirty in the morning, with heavy fog, or half the sky glare from a sunrise, and no-icons. Or heavy rain, or snow. Or takeoffs from airfields, with no external view available, and people running into each other on the airfield. Jeez, why make things difficult? Give people good seeing conditions. What's wrong with airstarts?

One of my own favorites was one of my first ones, where a group of IL2's flies through some valleys on the way to attack shipping with torpedoes. Some Laggs escort. Bf109 attackers outnumber red escort fighters, and it is a real challenge to get at least one torpedo IL2 to the target ship. If the ship is sunk, Red wins. It was one of my earliest and simplest missions, and seemed to work quite well.

Some of the best missions are the simplest ones, with a modest number of planes.

I also had one where IL2's attack a vehicle convoy, and guests were encouraged to man the rear gunner slots. This mission was a lot of fun, especially as a rear gunner. I had Bf109F2's attacking, which meant the IL2's were not in too much danger. It was fun for the F2 pilots, because they got in lots of gunnery practice.

I've liked naval coops. Looking over some of my earlier ones, I've had to change ship types to lessen the murderous ship AAA that reappeared in FB. There is something special about heading way out over water to attack shipping. Dogfighting over water is special, too. There is less trouble seeing other airplanes, especially those pesky green Russian fighters, which blend in all too well with forest textures.

Lately I like attacking vehicle convoys, allowing some ground-pounding for one side, and then have opposing fighters show up late, after most of the damage is done. That allows for some mud-moving action, followed by dogfighting.

I like airfield-raiding missions. One side gets to vulch parked planes, and in some cases AI planes taking off. The other side generally gets to pounce on the attacking planes.

Battle of Britain coops are fun.

I put together some Winter War coops. Some people claim the Finland map is bad for coops, but I disagree. It may take longer to load, but I haven't seen any problems with the missions playing out.

Early-war coops, especially with Emils doing ground-pounding, followed by air combat with early Russian fighters are fun. Toss in some Bf110's for even more fun.

Bomber-intercept missions are a welcome change from dogfighting, too. It gives the LW people a chance to squeeze the trigger on Mk 103 gunpods. What could be more fun than that?

I like coops.
