Kaleun Freddie's Saga... Continued..

So I had to give up on that long shot, shut down engines and sat on my hydrophones for 2 days..and bingo... 4 escorts and a lot of noise.

Lucky, or I must be getting good at this. Well this time, I took the time to concentrate and listen to the 'noises' on my hydro. Did a single course adjustment and found myself here....

Plum dead centre on the convoy track...@#$% THIS is not a good place to be, so put the gear-stick in 'R' for racing-reverse and backed out a bit, while playing 'sound' games (he speeds up - so do I => He stops - so do I) with the front escort. Eventually plugged a T2 and damged this C3(dead in the water)...
After the clean up I had and escort after me but I was gonnnnnne.....

I've recorded a lot on this attack and will post it as a movie Tut - for those who wanna do 100% convoy attacks. Could be useful

I rather enjoyed this attack..
There were 4 columns of ships with probably 4 ships in each column. I don't keep my scope up long enough to scan, just pick out the 'biggies'. I counted 4 escorts on the hydrophone. The one escort was different though. It had a low revving engine, which I originally mistook for a passenger liner - was I excited. I never saw this ship but worked out that it was an escort as it was way off to the side of the convoy. This was all done on the hydrophone - You lot must get into this as the Hydro is a very useful tool.

I sit there 'glued' to my PC with headphones on...listening ,and the wife or kids walk in 'yapping'... Up goes the hand.. 'QUIET! I'm listening..don't disturb me, I'm under attack' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Anyway I managed to worm my way into 'this' side of the right column, and hit a T2 and a C3 with 3 torps. the T2 went down, and the C3 eventually stopped - sunk it later with the deck gun. I was down at 50m already being pinged by an escort. i don't think the escorts were noobs as i went into a 180m crash dive, straight into the convoy a full speed. I just lost them completely. I'm sure I went through a thermal layer as I could hear the audio 'differences' on the same ping !!

So here I am waiting patiently for another.

Am rather keen to see the film. Have never had the opportunity to observe another Kaleun's operational technique.

Embarrassing detail in my command training...and early U-boat service..er...never actually qualified on the TDC...hey, it was old school, we used a thing called 'the banjo'...
