Just uploaded to Mission 4 Today is a 31 mission campaign by Rata Az called "Kobras Over the Donbass". The campaign is very good and very immersive and follows the career of a young pilot in 16 GIAP in August 1943. DKoor and I translated - well, "sort of" anyway - the briefings and other material from Russian and so I had an opportunity to fly it. It's a "can't miss".

Highly recommended for all VVS and Ostfront fans.

This one has high praise attached to it so I'm definitely going to try it out. Thanks for all the work you did translating it, guys. I know how hard that can be.

Just downloaded and put it through the FMB to jazz up the luftie skins a bit before I play it.
The attention to detail is great. But what is even better is the quality of the briefings. They compare well to Davidov's excellent Mig3 campaign that shipped with 4.05m

Can't think of higher praise than that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Really impressed with the English briefings and the campaign is shaping up to be brilliant.

I'm besotted with the P39N, it's a nimble fighter with a great surround view from the cockpit as well as being a stable gunnery platform for sniping with that huge cannon on the nose.

Lovely jubbley.

This campaign will be a nice addition to a book I just bought from Amazon.com.

The book is called RED STAR AIRACOBRA memoirs of a soviet fighter ace 1941-45 It is about Evgeniy Mariinsky who flew the p-39 with the 129th gaurds fighter regiment.During the war he flew 210 combat sorties and in 60 aerial combats was credited with 18 personal victories,In june 1945 he became a hero of the soviet Union.

Thank You to the makers of this free add on campaign.I look foward to flying it!

First mission was a hoot.
Navigating without map icons, I missed the first recon point and instead headed for the second one by mistake. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Cursing myself, I doubled back did a bit of dead reckoning using the #2 point as an IP. Finally found the first recon area. By that time the other flight had continued on and run into a gaggle of bombers. Throttle at full, I headed for #3, ticking off the landmarks as I went.

When I got there I could see tracers in the distance. I arrived at the fight just as it was breaking up, and managed to chase a wily 109 all the way home on the deck. Finally managed to land a cannon shell on his underside and stop his motor. He bellied in and finished up overhooting into a river with a very satisfying splash http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

I circled, wondering where the hell I was. Got a vector back to base and suddenly remembered it was a straight bit of road I had to land on. Eeek!

Wheels and flaps down, I came in very carefully using little bursts of throttle to keep a nice smooth descent. What a fluke! Straight in with nary a bump and was even able to taxi into a nice shady spot between the trees http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And mission #2 I was able to get 4 Ju-88's and the Order of the Red Banner http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Bloody good campaign! Looking forward to the rest http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

China Incident? Where? WHERE?????

One tip for those who like to fly on realistic or without icons: use TAB > 8 > 3 , and ground control will give you the vector to target.
After you find the target and deal with it, use TAB > 8 > 2 and it will give you heading to home base... so there's no much need for ground recognition.
Once when you learn the map it will be double as easy.

Thanks for making this campaign available to us! The Airacobra is my favorite plane but being away from it for so long I'm having to get used to it again. This first mission was very thoughtfully planned out. I was able to get a 109 and blew off the tailfin of a Stuka with one shot of my cannon. After the crew bailed, I finished it off with another cannon shot. What a blast!

Three missions into it, and I have yet to make a landing on home base! But it is a cartload of fun, and very immersive.

Someone obviously went to a great deal of work, and I just want to say 'bolshoi spacebo.'

cheers
