View Full Version : UQMG and the IL4 "Betty"

It seems that no matter which rules set I use, including those with the IL4 on it, it's not available. I've used the UQMG to set up flyable and AI (external only) dogfight arenas, but the IL4 just isn't there when I get into the game. Any ideas?

Edit: The DB-3F makes a suitable sub for either the IL4 or the G4M. Makes you think the same guys made all three of these!

Umm, the DB-3F and IL4 are pretty much the same thing; DB-3F is just the military designation of the IL-4 (like TB-3 which is actually ANT-20 I believe).

Well, I guess that explains it. Thanks! Do you happen to know if skins for the IL4 (specifically Yamamoto's Betty) will fit the DB-3F?

As an update to this story, I found an excellent G4M Betty skin for the DB3F at (you guessed it) IL2skins.com. Here's the link:

http://www.il2skins.com/?action=display&skinid=7343

And it does work just fine with UQMG, and AI only flights!

Good point... It seems that the code for the skins is valid, as it works in QMB and FMB, but it does not work as a DF code... If anyone can find what the code is for DF, let me know.

Tug, S! If you turn your hand to painting the MiG-3U, I'll start your fan club. The Betty's beautiful!

I've definitely flown the IL-4 (1942) in Bigbyte's DF server as bombs and torpedos were selectable as weapons.I should be seeing him later and I'll ask him for the information on how he got it to work.

I was under the impression that there was no "IL-4" code per se for the .mis files, thus I've always used "DB-3F". This works fine in DF as well as COOP online missions. As Angelus pointed out, I thought the two were the same. Granted though, this does not jive with DeerHunter's experience, since there is no torpedo loadout for the DB-3F. Hopefully, someone can authoritatively speak to the issue...a torpedo loadout for a "Betty" would be a good thing. As a bit of an aside, some have used the Blenheim MkIV as a betty. There is a beautiful "double-shot" Betty skin pack for the Blenheim by Kidd6; one in the same camo scheme as mine and a "classic" green Betty. This can be d/l'ed from IL2skins.

@ Aardvark: Thanks again for the nice words. I have no plans for a MiG-3U. There are some nice MiG skins over at IL2skins. However, many are not U-variant specific. Does the basic MiG-3 skin fit all of the variants? I ask because some of the pros have turned their attention to the MiG-3. Oh, and you'll have to get in line: I'm the charter member of the Tug fan-club. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

All of the MiG-3's look very similar... except for the U. Of course. I couldn't pick a favorite plane that's popular, doncha know. Wish them darn Soviets had produced about 8,000 more U's and used 'em in combat! Oh, and left one for me buried somewhere.

This is now waaayyyy off the topic of the original post (my apologies for that) but some of the big boys in the skin world (hmm, that didn't come out right) often do custom projects for people. I have seen, for example, that Canon and Leadspitter are often up for a challenge in that regard. Not to presume to speak for them, but as they are much much more accomplished than I in the skinning realm, they may just be the guys to ask about a nice MiG-3U skin. There are a clutch of other great skinners as well, and a lil' ole post over at the skinners forum is very likely to land you a custom MiG-3U.
