The Ki-43 was, in some ways, more dangerous to deal with than the A6M, chiefly
because it had a better rate of roll and was armed with two 12.7mm machineguns.
The P-40 driver with a Zero on his tail could usually break the contact with
an aileron roll. This was much less likely with the Ki-43. The Oscar boy
could plant himself behind the P-40 and stay there no matter what the Curtiss
driver did, all the while hammering .50 cal nails that could do some real
damage.

You'd think you would want a canon or something.
I just wouldnt feel right with only 2 .50s, but then again. It sure beats 2 .303s http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

By the way, how do you use his reticle ?

All I get in reticle mode is a view on a dark grey glas lens... (Same with the Val bomber).

Do you have to switch it on, somehow ?

press ctrl D http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif same as the reticle dimmer on the german a/c ,took me a while to figure it out aswell.

a note on the Ki-43, its not a killer nor uber
because you can pretty much ignore if you keep the speed up a little, the versions we got ingame flyable have only 2x7.7mm Mg's
i hope we get the others flyable aswell with better firepower, its realy a funny plane to fly and she sure can dance http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

we have 3 armament variants in PF!!!!

Ia with 2x7,7mm Typ89 500rpg
Ib with 1x7,7mm Typ89 500rpg & 1x12,7mm Ho103 250rpg
Ic with 2x12,7mm Ho103 250rpg


and Ki43-Ib was the main version of the Ki-43-I

Most Ki-43s as investigation has shown where armed with either twin 7.62mm or one 7.62mm and one 12.7mm up until the end of the war. Crashed and abandoned aircraft aircraft inspected with the mixed armament often had protective plates mounted around the unreliable 12.7mm to prevent damage to the engine in case of a destructive malfunction. This is also backed up by a study of logistics consumed by Ki-43 squadrons that show an equal consumption of 7.62mm and 12.7mm ammuntion that shifts back towards more 7.62mm consumed than 12.7mm by the end of the war.

Japan's air power at the start of the war was probably the finest in the world, perhaps second only to Germany. Highly trained and experienced pilots, ground crews, naval men. Fortunately for us its Industrial might proved to be no match to that of the United States, well depending on your point of view I guess.

A real finesse plane from what I've flown with it so far. I say that mainly based on the fact you have to be very precise with your gunnery as the telescopic sight is quite a challenge to use because it restricts your view so much (FW bar? pah, for noobs!). This is particularly evident against fighters who are all over the place trying to evade.

Its also a bit of a blackout machine as well- that fantastic manouverability means you can make it do some crazy stuff, but I found you have to be careful not to push it more than the pilot can stand.
