View Full Version : Assassins Creed - Weather?

Assassins Creed is just epic, right?

Like, when you first discovered you could disarm those long weapons of particular AI, and then use it against them to find that you stab him through the stomach, push up, and throw him only for him to land RIGHT on the stick with his body in the middle of it, slowly falling down till it reaches the bottom?
Like when you (not many people might have did this) killed those 2 fleeing assassination targets in a double kill using your double blade?
Or when you slowly brought down the whole towers defences as you climbed higher, finally reaching the top and doing a high jump assassination on your unaware target?
Or when you shot the POPE with your pistol from the side path you could take when entering the church?

Imagine doing this... But in RAIN? It's pouring down, people are running in the opposite direction towards shelter. You slowly walk in the middle, unfazed.
Or your having a final battle, on the highest roof top in all of Rome, against Cesare for example, and it's thundering, lightening?

Imagine it snowing? Christmas? An opportunity for a new hiding place... the snow. Hiding in big piles of snow just like the haystacks. Or even throwing snow balls at guards to provoke them like the "taunt" option in AC2!

I think AC has missed out on a great opportunity to make their franchise even more epic than it already is by simply using weather conditions as a variable and as a bit of you know... eye-candy :P

What do you think?

Yeah I don't know why they didn't think of this. Definitely should put it in the game.

It was mentioned before AC2. People wondered why they did not do it then. My theory was that it was to "prevent exposing the world to an awesome over-dose".

Just so your know, you're not the first person to ever think of this!

I wouldn't mind the idea. I personally love it. At first i thought it'd be cool for it to effect your movements but then someone else mentioned

Raining and it effects your movements:

Running and you slip - Lol
Running and you slip again - Ok
Running and You slip... again! - Now it's getting annoying
Slip and fall in front of a target or it ruins your stealth - WTF!!

So, i'd like the effect to be there, but not so much for movements.

BTW, are you sure you finished listing every single moment in Assassin's Creed 2 in your OP? (which was all epic btw http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

Well at near-death Ezio manages to say "Eff you" to the pope so why not throw a snow ball at a guard?

And if you think Ezio would get pwned by a couple of guards, you've just about started playing AC. Because you can easily get through 20?

And X10J, nice theory. Makes sense. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Good point there about the slipping. But you wouldn't be running on laminated floor or something? It would be rough whatever-floors-made-out-of (tarmac?) so the grip would be pretty good?
And yeah you could always just.. leave slipping to the cutscenes? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I like the idea of weather. And as far as slipping in the rain goes, maybe there could be certain areas that are more susceptible to it; ledges, walls, etc. (not all of them mind you) and if you go into one of those areas you could get a message saying "Caution, quick movements in this area could cause Ezio to slip" or something like that. It would be more realistic that's for sure

Nice idea, but I personally don't think the game focuses on realism much(the slipping thingy).

Iím all for a weather system in the game as well, I think it would be a nice touch, we do already have Ezio getting wet by swimming so Iím sure a bit of rain wonít hurt him as well. Snow would look very cool, could involve missions with tracking or something like that. Think he should keep off the glider in lightning though http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

That's another thing weather could do: If its rain/snowing Ezio can't use his parachute (which I think is kind of a dumb and pointless idea to begin with)

"The weather in Rome during summer is uncomfortably hot, temperatures often exceeding 95F (35C) at midday, and Romans tend to close up their businesses during August to take holidays in cooler spots. Mid-winter is mild, the average temperature in December hovering around 55F (13C). The best time to travel to Rome is in springtime, when skies are blue and the weather warm. Rain showers are possible any time of year."
So not cold enough to snow really, but rain definitely a possibility.

Yes it would have been very hot... but it does rain (as bearsbball pointed out) so it wouldn't be impossible.

And if AC3 takes place in the modern times then I think weather would not only be great, but necessary. I'm not sure where the modern times takes place, but if its America or England which is most likely (I put England as an option as I'm from there.. Yes, I am biased) then it will NEED rain and other weather conditions to make it realistic.

So if it's anything like what we have in Cambridge then in winter there will be lots of rain and not alot of snow http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Yup, and it would be stupid if they set it any of those 2 countries with the sun blazing 24/7...
