Hi everybody,

I been playing playing FB and PF for a long time and there's a detail that kind of ''hitches'' me.

When we attack a ship or sink a ship, there is only a few smoke columns. In fact, there was way more smoke and fire, and ships didn't actually sink in 5 minutes. They usually burned and rolled on their side before completely sinking. In PF they usually sink whitout burning and they just smoke a little bit. I know it would slow down the game, but could they just make an ON/OFF function for that?

Yep, pretty awful, huh? I think the assumption is that people are too much attuned to twitch games and want to watch it sink before they even have time to pull out of their dives. I'm sure there are some airquake players that would think that was a good idea.

You are right, it would be far better if they made the damage threshhold to make smoke far far lower, and had the sinking animation take, I dunno, an hour instead of 2 minutes.

Sounds like a good idea.

The problem with this is, that the time it takes for a ship to sink is very variable.

It depends on the inner structure of the ship and the location and amount of the damage, as well as payload and tonnage.

Even the largest ships can sink rather quick if they sustain enough damage.

Since this is a flight simulator I guess we will never see anything like this. At least not in FAP.

I realize ship sinking times are quite variable. OTOH, ships are grossly easier to sink i this game than RL. On top of that, most ships took longer than 2-3 minutes to sink. Sure, there are spectacular examples contrary to that, but they are the exception.

Even 30 minutes would be a short sinking time in RL and plenty long in PF.

The anount of time it can actually take for a Carrier or Battleship to go down does seem to vary and they don't always go down quickly, but if you hit the transport, or smaller ships they do go down a lot quicker. That photo is of Pearl Harbour and it's probably sitting on the bottom so it wouldn't go down anymore!

The ships did use to have much more fire and smoke billowing from them...i thought it was great...however, as per usual, complaints of FPS, etc and now they're gone...it would be nice to have the choice... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
