For a laugh I was gonna ask nighttime in full real but I know NOBODY who is normal would respond. Yeah I know a die-hard purist might. Search lights and maybe some moon...more than enough, right?

I don't even like cross hairs and gauges. And with no icons what's the point?

Some dusk or dawn, hopefully with a bright moon (and icons) is the only acceptable way. Maybe I should just say 'playable' for real guys.

Also, how are you pilots at nighttime landings? I'm 50/50. It's only because I've attempted just two such missions though...cough. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've never particularly cared for night missions. I only had a few in my 109 campaign for the original IL-2. We were tasked with shooting down some Night Witches in their Po-2s. I always thought "night time" in IL-2 and FB looked weird.

I always loved night and blizzard missions the best! They give you a real sense of accomplisgment when you finally put your plane on the ground.

I also think night missons would be more enjoyable if exhaust flame was modeled in the game.

Nighttime in FB seems artificially dark...I know the suns down and all but unless there is no moon, no clouds, and no ambient lighting at all you can still generally see pretty well in the dark. The simple fact that your eyes adjust to the darkness and are capable of picking up quite a bit at least in the short isn't really modeled in FB as far as I can tell. Unless you turn your monitors brightness up 15 points its usually hard to see the horizon.

I love the searchlights however, that is VERY cool! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I love night missions. I love them even more in a HE-111 or TB3.

I do not like night time for fighter interdiction though because by the time the session is over my head is fried and my eyes feel like they should be bleeding.

At least with a bomber all you have to worry about is getting the bombs on target and getting home.

In a fighter the target tends to be as fast moving and as deadly as you and at night that is a nightmare (for me).

Night missions I find can be just a little to much for online. I do enjoy twilight missions though with some moon in the winter time so I can spot the grey dot.

Since I only fly the B-17, I welcome everything that makes it more difficult for fighters to detect and engage me.

So yes, I like nighttime and bad weather like snow storms or rain.

Recently, I was on Slammin's server when he had that marvellous map with thick clouds, some mist nad a snowstorm... the thick center of this was over my (red) base, while some sunlight reached through the clouds near blue base. Simply cool!

Nighttime is no good in FB because the AI has no visibility limitations. This totally undermines the nature of night-fighting.

Nighttime is fine online 1am looks like its 4pm in the winter, most people leave in night servers on HL, but then again on HL most the people are non cockpit and external padlock dependants.

I guess you have to define "missions"

If it's a DF arena in which all the pilots are human, night is fine.

But in a Coop or any of the virtual wars or offline using AI, I don't like low vis missions of any kind. (I'll fly them in a Coop but I sure won't host them).

The AI don't care if it's midnight or cloudy or raining or snowing. They see you in any conditions even if you can't see them.

That's soooooo unrealistic that it takes the enjoyment out of low vis missions for me.

Happy Holidays!

Sorry, I lost the night sight in my left eye four years ago. I cannot and do not do night missions. I have converted everyone that I come across to some level of light.
