Your right as there was the big bru-ha over them not letting gays in. But, that is getting way off-topic.

Seriously, congrats as it takes commitment to get there. Don't limit yourself thinking only military service is the only job related benefit. I've had friends that got other jobs and higher starting pay because the person interviewing was impressed or into that accomplishment. I was in basic training with a guy who was E-3 from being an Eagle Scout and it's a big deal for the money. Starting at E-3 gives a nice boost over E-1 and just as important it puts you in position to make E-4 the biggest "percentage" pay jump in the military. Or at least it was when I went through basic over a decade ago.

Iwasnet limiting just to military but it helps on other jobs to and the gay thing we probably shouldn't go there but only gay adults can't be involved.

From what I understand, becoming an Eagle Scout takes alot of commitment, especially for a young adult. It's something that you can take with you, no matter what career path you choose.
Glad you are part of our community.

Congrats, Slo. You'll always be glad you stuck it out.

I was "Life" when my troop folded. Like an idiot, I used that as an excuse to back out of Scouting. I'll always regret that I didn't get my eagle.

I was OA too. Ceremonial team. I even remember some of my lines. Great fun.

I've got 3 boys now. I could start my own troop. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Actually, my oldest will be Scout age next year. We're looking into it now.

Having your Eagle will help in whatever you go into. Future employers, officers, etc. see it as shorthand for "this guy is motivated and capable of commitment".

All the best to you.

ps-- your sig reminds me of a former scoutmaster's quip, "You guys knock that off before I jerk you both in a knot". That phrase has come in handy on numerous occaisions.

Good for you slo!

I'm not a fan of the BSA's policy of accepting all kinds of tax dollars w/o accepting all kinds of tax payers, but that really has very little to do w/ what goes on at the troop level. I kinda miss being a scout myself.

More than once less than 20,He's the kinda guy who tells you once to stop before you got hurt and then if you keep doin what your doing he'd just let you get hurt and then you'd know why he said stop.Good times but now we have a more strict scoutmaster . I've learned many good values and skills in scouting and I just wish people wouldn't here that your in scouts and just tink jeeze he must be a loser, cause its not and the other guys here who were in scout can tell you the same I just wish people would learn that its a great way to sped time and learn stuff that will help you alot and earn things that will do the same .
I've been to alot of places, and done alot of stuff in my troop. like canoeing backpacking tons of camping fishing all kinds of stuff and later I'm helping a guy with his eagle project (if I feel gooder) and this weekend we're goin to a cabin at a lake and fishing ,swimming and having fun all weekend .I've even had the chance to get to play around in an airplane when I was takin g the aviation merit badge.
And this summmer we're taking a trip to the smokies for a nice backpacking trek for 5 days and then 2 days of white water rafting on the French Broad river, and I never woulda had tha oppurtunity without scouts.
And I'll proudly add that I've been a scout since tiger cubs when I was 6 or 7 years old and nw I'm sixteen so think bout that.OO me and some friends even made a song it goes:

Throw a nother webloe on the fire,
Watch him squirm and perspire,
Once he flames up he won't stop,
Lets wait and see if he goes pop,
Yes throw another webloe on the fire.

Hey Congrats!
Eagle is a really big deal, there are soooo many doors that it helps open. I loved scouting (though I wish I'd have been more serious about it like you are) and I've just signed my son up for Cub scouts.
A job very well done sir!

Congratulations! It takes dedication and maturity to achieve that level. Something anyone you deal with in the future will take into account. It shows you are a person willing to go the extra mile.

Take the lessons learned and apply them in your future.

Congratulations slo1-2-3, thats a great personal accomplishment.. It shows what you can do when you make it a high enough priority in your life. Its a double edged sword though.. if you fail at something, more often that not its because yu didn't give it your all! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Set your sites high and try to accomplish your dreams..

Congradulations!

I've been an Eagle now for about 5 years! My younger brother just achieved the rank over the Winter time. Glad you joined the club it takes a lot of work starting at a young age but the experiences in the journey are worth it, my scouting days are some of my best memories!

And not to get this OT but I'm quite familiar with the "bru-ha-ha" I was at Camp Yawgoog in Rhode Island at the time when that whole thing blew up...

Hopefully we can move on from that now and improve.

Yea I'd like to be on the ceromony or dance team for O.A. but I gotta make some regailia. I thinm I'm bad at public speaking so I'll probably be a torch bearer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif even I can manage that, hey dark horizon where you from you sound like a guy I know just curious.

Slo-I highly congratulate you,you sir,are basically a Navy SEAL in the Scout world.

I'm sure you're busy enough, but,if you have a local wing of the Civil Air Patrol(U.S.A.F. auxilliary) you might consider joining.
I was in from '78-'80,and at that time(I can't speak for today's rules).if you joined the USAF,you received a pay grade bump,also.

You get to log alot of airtime too(usually Cessna 172/182),there's observer training, radio operation, lots of cool stuff, that as an Eagle Scout,I realize you may have already done.

But,I mainly mention it,because if you were considering a military career,it might give you an additional pay bump-I have no clue as to whether they 'add up';might be worth checking. Not to mention all the free flying/riding.

Anyway,congrats!

This is a thread about SLO. NOT about your personal views on the BSA. If your responses are being lost then take the hint.

Geeeez, some people make it really hard to enjoy a thread.

So how many of you guys know what O.A. is? (Order of the Arrow)
Its the Honored campers society that you are voted into by your scout peers for your leadership and helpfulness and some other stuff and the ceromony teams and dance teams are realy nice to watch the theme I guess you would call it is native american regalia where traditinal native american dances are performed in the regailia for certain ceromonies and then theres the other ceromonies within O.A. for things where you have some guys speaking and some other stuff in the regalia with some guys called torch bearers running around with diesel soaked burlap on a stick
so I just need to make some and I can play with the torches http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I will encourage you guys to get you boys involved with either cubscouts below 11 years old or boyscouts if there older than eleven they would learn alot of things go alot of places and have tons of fun, all while be outa your house leaving you with quiet flying time, or you can be involved and do all the stuff with em if you wanted to.

hmm. just thought of a new avatar pic to go with my subtitle..... to be countinued.....
