View Full Version : Companeros! Halt the march of Fascism!!! (Campaign)

Spain, 1938...
The legitimate forces of Republican Spain reel under blow after blow struck by Franco's Fascist armies.

You are a volunteer flying a Soviet-donated I-16 in defence of democracy and liberty...

Yours will not be an easy task, for we in Spain have been all but abandoned by the so-called "Great Democracies" who are more concerned with maintaining ties with the tyrannical regimes of the new Fascist dictators of Europe than with aiding a democratically elected progressive government of the Spanish people!!

Fight for the future of Europe -
Today the fight is for Spain,
but Tomorrow, the World!!!

(Espagne Campaign - by Gaston aka DjTeD -COMING SOON!!!!)

And there will be a lot of other bonuses with that campaign :

-some online missions,
-lot of skins (thanks to all the skinners of this great community),
-new menu music,
-some sound files, some coming with patches, some not,
-new background images.

The all package will be more than 100 Mo !!!

As Gaston and FlatSpinMan know, I just recently played the original version (all in French, which I don't read or speak) and can tell you that it's a blast! Great attention to detail and well thought out missions. I'm looking forward to the changes/improvements they are making--although it plays fine as is, IMHO--and FlatSpinMan has translated it into English. All in all, this campaign will be well worth
the time investment.

Salut Gaston, I just flew the prologue mission and had a blast against those infernal CR-42s!! They never give up. Didn't achieve the main objective but I did follow orders by coming back in one piece. The dogfight we had was superb - biplanes swooping and soaring, pulling the tightest turns. Most fun dogfight I've had in ages!!! Gonna load that one up in the Single missions again for sure.

269GA_Veltro
I'm not sure about the skins to be honest. The name certainly sounds familiar but a number of skinners work is represented. No doubt Gaston will be able to help you.

Nice to see so many people coming out and declaring their love for cr@p planes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. As Genie said, "those poor E4's don't stand a chance."
Now those CR-42s are another matter... They would have to be one of my most feared opponents in this sim. They don't sit still for a second and man can they take a beating! Pretty spectacular when they do go up though http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Veltro - that's a cool photo you posted. Gaston chose some pretty good skins from some pretty awesome skinners. I tried to hunt down the acknowlegdements list as those guys really do deserve the praise but I can't find it right now. Maybe Gaston can name names.

Zoolander - if you like CR-42s then this campaign will bring tears to your eyes as you'll see them going down like flies (no more than they deserve, nasty, scary biplanes - sorry, flashed back to Chuck Older's "When Tigers Could Fly" - had some bad experiences against them).

Thank for your work guys!

Cr@p planes you said? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif A Spanish Civil War addon (also a patch-addon with a map and the CR 32/Bf-109? flyable would be enough) and a dedicate server would be fantastic, and for sure with a lot of fun!!! Many Russian planes fought there so it would be perfect for the Il2 serie....more than some other B1 jets... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
A server with a lot of biplanes and Rata....superb dogfights!!!

Bump, bump, bump!!!

P.S.: But..i'd fly for the dark side...off course...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Hey FlatSpin and Gaston: Your testers probably have noticed, but I thought I'd pass this on for what it's worth.

So, I'm flying the original campaign version, in one of the missions on the mountainous map (Online map 4, I think???), and having a great time duelling with 109's in my Ishtak. My wingman, Wingnut, and I actually shot down one each. Feeling cocky, We headed for the bombers they had been escorting, when we were jumped by Fiat G. 50's. The only way to handle Fascists is with agression, I always say, so Wingnut and I waded into the four of them. Guess what! They were so scared that all four of them flew into the sides of various mountains as soon as we started to chase (or violently evade) them. I think Wingnut and I deserve the Republicans' highest praise and gratitude, although because I am the humble sort, I'll settle for lots and lots of gold. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Okay, I lied---the Fascist weren't scared, but true to form, just stupid. Since patch 4.01, in all of my homemade missions using that map and others with mountains/hills/ridges, the AI exhibit the same phenomenon--crashing into elevations with depressing regularity. And not just on takeoffs and landings, which I understand is due to their programmed traffic patterns, but anytime they are forced to maneuver, like in a dogfight. I hope Oleg fixes this in the next patch.

Avant! LLibertat! Victoria!

While you're waiting (ever so patiently, might I add http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif),start practising your anti-biplane gunnery skills - you'll be neck deep in them soon enough. Ta for the info Veltro. I just checked through the skins included by Gaston aka DjTeD but couldn't find a bare metal one of the CR42. There are lots of great camo schemes though. Those skinners are a talented group of people, as are the campaign makers. I really will have to try and make one of my own one of these days. Have to study for a Japanese test first though as I already waste more than enough time on this as it is.

Hey thanks, Boosh. Gaston did a good job for sure. The game istelf is extremely photogenic I think. All you need for a great pic is to crop it and sometimes sharpen, often not even that. How old is it now? I can't imagine playing some contemporary game and getting anything like these shots.

Yep, amongst others. Gaston (the campaign builder) set it in three, maybe four maps. I'm still going on it and can recall three maps to date. I'm on mission 15. Using the mountain map made for some really spectacular and fun dogfights. The AI crashed sometimes but in a dogfight in that kind of terrain it's quite understandable.

Yep. Will be ready when it will be !!!

On FlatSpinMan idea, I think missions will be a little tweaked, in the sense to add a little bit of "life" on the bases. At the beginning, I did not want to do that for 2 principal reasons, one good and the other not so :

-to keep the game smooth, with no stutter and lag problems,
-I am too lazy for that...

Buit finally, once beta-testing will be over, I will do that with some small light missions changes I keep in mind from the testers.

Your welcome FlatSpinMan...

Goshikisen is the name of the aircraft in my sig picture. Unlike some Japanese aircraft names like Raiden (Thunderbolt) or Hayate (Gale) that are a moniker not unlike Hellcat or Spitfire.... Goshikisen is nothing more than a phonetic representation of the aircraft's numeric designation in Japanese. "Go" = 5, "Shiki" = Type, "Sentoki" = Fighter or Type 5 Fighter. The Hien (Swallow) was the Type 3 fighter and the Hayate was the Type 4 fighter. I suppose you could almost call the Hien the "Sanshikisen" if you wanted to follow the model.

There's the long winded explanation of the name...

Looking forward to your campaign.

Regards, Goshikisen.

Some late changes are being done to the bases at the moment.

@Friendly_flyer - (and anybody else of course)hope you are practising your take-offs and landings in the Mosca, it's not the easiest thing to handle http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I have certainly ripped the undercarriage off a fair few in testing this campaign, especially after 4.02. I'm having to push the stick forward early and throttle up veeerrryy gradually to keep her straight. If I don't do that, she veers right, then left then I snap her gear off trying to bring it back over http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

@Goshikisen- Thanks for the explanation and the interesthttp://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif. Just to clarify, Gaston (on this forum DjTeD) is the campaign maker, I'm just the lackey who helped with the briefings and stuff http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

Hey FlatSpinMan, this is pretty much how I had to handle it after the 4.01 patch. Have you noticed a real big difference with it after 4.02? My computer should be all fixed when I get home from work today, after 3+ weeks out of commission. I don't think I'm going to load the patch right away, after reading all the different views on the subject. And when I do, I'll probably do a complete uninstall/reinstall of the game and prior patches just to be safe.

Anyway, I'm glad I haven't missed the re-release of this campaign.

FlatSpinMan
11-07-2005, 07:54 PM
No, not really. I found that I could take off in the Jug much more easily but that in the I-16 I had to be even more careful than I ws under 4.01. Other than that and some lateral movement in the I16 when i fired all guns (corrected by FatBoyHKs idea about inputs) I think it's about the same and maybe even easier. Excited about getting your PC back? Try to retain your composure http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

@FlatSpin: Yes! I'm up and running with a new sound card (SB X-Fi) and a replacement 6800GT. But there is a problem--my microphone doesn't work. Pluged and replugged, trouble shot through the device manager, the speech program, tried my old earpghones--no joy. Speakers work just fine, and earphones too. With the apparently new AI intelligence levels, it will bite not to be able to command them with VAC.

What are the odds of a new sound card with a faulty mike jack?

So, I haven't installed the new patch yet--I'm going to follow others' advice and do a whole new install of IL2. I'm backing all the important files up and uninstalling add-ons right now.

ANyway, first up are some pics that I really like from an earlier mission . I like the one where the plane is being hit. In a larger image (somehow beyond my abilities today for some reason) you can see the pilot kind of looking like he is beyond hope. The next pic shows why...

Hi FlatSpinMan! Thanks for the update. Actually, I have a bunch of pics I could post from the original version of the campaign, if anyone is interested. But first I have to rake leaves today. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

As I mentioned, when I got my PC up and running I did a complete uninstall/reinstall rebooting at each CD install and each patch. I was worried that I'd have to reinstall/set up my utiliities, like VAC, TrackIR, Mat Manager, etc., but dumping in a copy of my backed-up conf.ini and settings files took care of that. It took about an hour and a half. And the good news--no wobbles, no troubles, nothing! To tell the truth, I can't really find much difference in the FM on any of the planes I usually fly: F4F, Zero, P38, P47, P51, Il2, I16, I153, A20, B25, Gladiator, Spitfire, 109. Maybe a little less torque/gyro effect here and there, but no complaints. I feel bad for those guys/gals that do have an effed-up system after the patch, because there's nothing worse (in our hobby/relaxation worlds, that is) than not being able to fly this sim!

Cheers again to you and Gaston, FSM! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I'm looking forward to playing the full, complete version. Plus a new site I'd never heard about, bonus.
EDIT:Okay, so I'm already a member there. Doh. Too many good sites to keep tabs on.
