View Full Version : Myst EOA Todelmer Wallpaper

10-28-2005, 11:30 AM
I suppose that this is as good a place as any for posting this. My system is usually set up to have a rotating series of Hubble images as wallpaper but after playing EOA I decided that perhaps some astronomical Myst images might look good in the mix. Anyway, here are two 1280X1024 wallpapers of Todelmer created in flymode:
One (http://johnmcgaw.com/image/Myst-EOA-Todelmer1.jpg)
Two (http://johnmcgaw.com/image/Myst-EOA-Todelmer2.jpg)

The second is the better of the two if you are only going to look at one of them.

Woah. Very cool. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Thanks for posting these! I'm saving them to my desktop. Now I can rotate between Todelmer wallpapers!

NICE! Thanks jmcgaw...if you get some more...do share! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Ok Neo, here are two more. First one might be called "on the outside looking in" and the second is a view from the ring of the planet looking down (up over left right?) at what I presume to be Todelmer itself. Going outside the space station, satellite, keep, or whatever it is called invokes some pretty spooky behaviour and the game engine or the way it was set up is clearly not up to the task but it was fun to try anyway.
Three (http://johnmcgaw.com/image/Myst-EOA-Todelmer3.jpg) Four (http://johnmcgaw.com/image/Myst-EOA-Todelmer4.jpg)

You're the MAN jmcgaw! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Nice shots & thanks for sharing!

Nice wallpaper, but it lost a good amount of detail when you saved it as a jpeg. This is most noticeable near the bottom left of #2.

Yeah. There are some artifacts there alright. I finally decided on using relatively high compression on the JPGs because so many people are reluctant to download large files not knowing the content's worth. I could have just as well put them up as TIFFs and avoided all the problems but then probably nobody would have looked at them -- I've got plenty of space on the server and if you want one (or all) of them with less (or no) compression just let me know and I'll do it. Probably wouldn't leave them up long but certainly long enough for somebody to grab them.

HI, jmcgaw,

I certainly missed something. Where were you situated when you took #3 and #4 ? At the scopes ?

If you do share your secret, I thank you.

If you would like to show your pictures "live",
you are welcome at "Pictures of the Spheres."

Let's see... Where was I? Well, for #3 I "floated" through the ceiling of the satellite, orbital keep, or whatever you want to call it and floated around a bit to get a decent view. For #4 I was in more-or-less the same place and just turned around until Todelmer was in view.

Odd thing about being out there floating in orbit though -- if I got too far away from my starting point everything went suddenly weird and I found myself floating below the surface of Todelmer looking up at ghosts of the rock spires above my head. Floating up from there I popped through the surface and found myself not far from the main observatory on Todelmer's surface. Strange stuff happens when you break the rules I guess...

How does one do these things? All, or at least the needed tool, is revealed here:

Fly Mode (http://www.cobbs.ca/bbs/showthread.php?t=518)

But only do this once you have finished the game. Doing it too soon would ruin everything.

HI jmcgaw.

Thank you for answering.

Unfortunatly my pc experience is still too limited for me to try so advanced moves. I am
still a newborn and have a lot to learn in so short time.

At least, I will not be going around in circle trying to find those "hot" places hunting for spheres pictures.

Good flying, nanouk metal

Well, when you do feel brave enough to try it you'll find that it is really simple to do. Basically extract three files from a ZIP archive and copy them into a named directory in the Myst program directories. Then execute the program that was one of the files just moved and click a button and it is done. After than you just press "3" while playing the game and you can "fly" anywhere you want. Rather a neat effect although it can get a bit weird if you happen to place yourself outside the areas that the Cyan programmers expected you to inhabit.

HI jmcgaw,

I succeded in installing the fly-mode. It took me a few hours to figured it out but I made it thanks to you. I am very gratefull. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Here is a very special linking bubble picture. I made it small as an aperitif!!!

Since I will be taking many more pictures, I am wondering if a new topic at myst OT, to post them, would be welcome ?

P.S. If the answer is affirmative and since many
pictures could be seen as big spoilers,
mayby the spoiler forum would be more

Many, many, many thanks to jmcgaw.

m00ved! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

HI Alamnat,

Does your "m00ved" means "tabled" and does it have to be adopted first ? My english is mostly basic. So I do not want to misinterpret.

And please notify if I should post at spoilers.

I hope I will get more co-operation than I got at "Pictures of the Spheres". Still no posting for me to go on over there. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

I just hope we have a lot of fun. It would be great if we had a person for each age and using the fly mode for picture. If I succeded installing it, anybody can do it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I said m00ved 'cause I moved the topic to the spoiler forum http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

And there was a cattle trailer that tipped over on the interstate outside Cincinnati today, so I have cows on the brain, heh.

Love those pic's! Installed *2 as desktop although it's difficult to see all my folders now.

Anyway, I thought I installed fly mode but turned out that I hadn't. I have a Mac, downloaded MacEoATool, unzipped it, downloaded the patch with the .ppp and .exe file, read all the instructions and followed them UNTIL I tried to open the pythonold.pak from my desktop with the MacEoaTool. Then he's giving me two error messages, error code 100 decrypting the file and saying something about a NilObjectException that wasn't handled?
Alahmnat, any ideas?

Thank you for the m00ved and enjoy the pictures.

Birlu, I sure hope you get the m00 bug fixed and milk an age for its pictures. I will go forward very slowly until you can m00 catch up.
p.s. mayby you could ask at tecnical's, Heimdall G would surely find the answer for you.

I just realised that mayby I should post a link instead of a picture. I will attempt a test to see if it works out.

For a high resolution 1024x768 wallpaper and easier icons viewing try this next picture.

P.S.if ever you want to make a copy of one of my wallpapers and because I go through Photobucket my images are lowered to smaller size. If you prefer original size, follow the next procedures.

1) you click on the link and you should see an image.

2) slowly run your cursor over the image until you get an icon at bottom right in the picture.
Click on that button for full size image.

3) and make/save a copy in your files.

Todelmer wallpaper.

P.S. It seems to be ok from my end. I will have to go back and take new pictures. I was using lower resolution. Even if my screen is at 1280x1024, my HP print screen tool will permit more than 1024x768.

wallpaper #2 is similar, but has more colors.
