If you could own and operate one mint WWII aircraft for your own personal pleasure what would you fly?

If I didn't have to pay for maintenance and fuel? Hmm...

It would either be a Yak-9 or a PBY-5a. The Yak-9 is a ton of fun, but I can only do it alone. The PBY-5a is a big plane, but I've got a nice big airport close by, and you can share the experience with your friends and family (and fly to places REALLY far away as well). The PBY's side ports give you enough space to stick a whole living-room back there.

A DC-3 fixed up as a flying motorhome.

Avro Anson - would be a great touring plane with all those windows. Or a TBM/F (same reason).

Grumman Goose. Big enough for some passengers and luggage, it has good range, it's small enough to land on a small patch of land OR water.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Talk about freedom....

If I had to pay for fuel and maintenance I'ld get a de Havilland Dragon Rapide or a Tiger Moth, or even a De Havilland Chipmonk.

If Not, I'm not sure if I could cope with the knowledge I crashed and destroyed on of the few remaining spitfires or Hurricanes so I would opt for something common like a Mustang!

Probably something like a p-40, if i just wanted to go a bit mad, but slighly more practically, probably a twin like a mozzie or p-38

This order I think...

SPitfire mkVIII, or Fw190A3 or Bf109F4.

I'd probably prang the 109 on landing however, so have to think about that one.

The SPit is supposed to be such fun to fly, it has to be the first.

Hmmm...

personal pleasure? The Spit is apparently a dream to fly, so if it was just about the flying...

but I've always wanted to fit out a Sunderland as a home and move around the world in it.

*whoops, I'm wasted.

Yes, a mobile flying houseboat would be good http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sunderlands even had a proper toilet, porcelain, not some portapotty!

It would have to be the Hurricane for me, nice and simple to fly also very stable.

Ju-88 - long range, two engines, pretty good flight characteristics and just lean & mean looking. No hakencruz though.

Hmm, SBD or a P-38.

For just flying around a Hayabusa, gotta be the most fun to fly, though a Beautiful Spit would also be a great joyride.

AT6, the only WWII A/C I have any time in. Somewhat practical, they seem to be easy to service and get parts for. Although the Chipmunk would be pretty cool, my Dad used to fly one quite a bit, they had one at the flying club where we kept our plane.

A Mosquito.

Room for me and a hottie.

Ooh, I completely forgot about T-6, probably the most practical and achievable in the list so far. I see these for sale reasonably often.

BF-109 G, no doubt in my mind

I would probably go with an L-4 Grasshopper.
I would go to airshows in WW2 uniform and put on a static scene recreating a recon prep near the plane with the works in WW2 era appearance so people could see how that was done.
Then maybe I would do an L-4/Cub dead stick landing from 4000 ft AGL for the audience.

Yippee.

P47, no doubt about it.
