Greetings all,

This link : ftp://www.txsquadron.com/patches/newdlls.zip - is for new dll files that are optimized for nVidia cards (6600 and 6800 series) We did some preliminary testing and they are showing better results as far as performance and picture quality, but it wouldn€t hurt if more people could test it. So basically I am asking <span class="ev_code_RED">volunteers</span> to give it a go and see how these DLL behaves on nVidia based systems with different other hardware configurations. Do not overwrite old DLL files, rename them and then copy these new DLLs into IL-2 forgotten battles folder.

Things to look for:

Performance, stability and video quality with water=3

Stability near the ground €" look for microstutters, etc.

Overall quality.

Please post back your findings. Once again, this is for nVidia based systems and if you own any other card, or simply not sure what to do with these files, Do NOT download it.

Thanks!

Ivan I don't run with water=3 due to performance hit. Do you still want folks to try them who do not use this high setting, or is it that these experimental .dll files are suppose to allow folks the ability to use water=3 with less than stellar systems?

My rig FYI - P4 3.06 HT, 1GB RDRAM, BFG 6800GT 256MB.

-------------------------------------

Result of new DLL's:

No difference in FPS. (Tried on my normal onlinesettings, and high settings with water 3).
I also tested over water, land and forrests, and on different tracks aswell as Blackdeath.

Water 3 had some flickering shadows or reflections (kindof) in the distance every 2-3 second with the new dll.

No microstutters with either dll.

These are the only differences I can notice.
--------------------------------------------

Other than that, the new patch fixed the missing textures on planes in perfect settings and with water 3.

Blackdeath trk. +5 fps avg
All PF trk. +2 fps avg

Brass at Berlin mission (my own lagg fest test mission)

Cockpit frame rates are up +10 fps avg
Left and right views over Berlin from pit +4fps avg
Attacking 8 IL2's in flak over Berlin +12 fps avg

Generally speaking its a better core dll but I see a small difference in quality worse maybe?.

Carrier based missions show no difference in FPS with heavy or light flak theres no difference between the dll's IMO.

Normal less stressfull missions run smoothly as before with no real difference between the dll's but im off to test the weather next see how they compare with the new clouds in 4.02m.

OK the effect on weather is negliable with Snow/rain/Poor/etc, both sets of dll's show the same results for me, 38fps in the worst conditions flying blind in thunder/snow or heavy patchy clouds.

Stability is fine no crashes as of yet after leaving it running in GoF map for 1 1/2hrs

New Dll's seem smoother over larger towns than before though no obvious frame rate increase.

**************************************

MSI NX 6800 Ultra Driver 81.85 res 1280 x 960 32 bit

After testing with this updated driver all scenery seems sharper and more focused ! ! !

Frame rates are within 1 or 2 of the 77.77 drivers but the overall scenery is much sharper or focused.
Overall colour saturation and time of day effects are nicer too.

Butttttt ! ! !

Shimmering in the water is more noticable, as is along the horizon shimmering which looks like anti alaising is turned off but is actually set to AA x 4, Water dont looks as nice as with 77.77 driver but 81.85 driver has better contrast and sharper scenery.

Further testing shows that the driver 81.85 is causing the water to shimmer with the new dll's and along the horizion, 77.77 drivers dont have the shimmer effect.

New DLL's

There is a small increase in FPS and stutter is slightly improved overall. I did notice that the new DLL's caused some graphical issues with the water (reflections seemed to throb brighter every second or so).

Despite the small increase in speed the stutter is still present, though not as pronounced. Definately an improvemnt but water=3 is still unusable due to heavey stutter. Without the stutter an average FPS of 35+ would be a smooth experience.

First off, I'll point out that I'm a 7800 GTX user (you only asked for 6800), and I don't normally use water=3 because it's unplayable even on my system.

Anyway, since the last time I checked with these settings, framerate definitely seems to have improved. Quality though, not so much.

- The water reflection of the sky and other objects seems to flicker between two different states. This, in generall, makes it switch from light to dark at random moments, and causes reflected scenery and objects to appear and disappear.

http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/8058/waterflicker7nq.gif

http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/2060/reflectionflicker4nd.gif

I did my best to simulate how this looks while playing but, it was hard to capture at the instances when the change happened so the frames in the GIFs aren't close enough.

Also, and I'm not sure if this was the case before with water=3 or not (though it seems similar to the problem I had with widescreen resolutions and the other water settings), the reflections seem to be either in the wrong place or streched somehow from low view angles.

http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/3781/wrongplace6pf.jpg

I'll take this opportunity to give some critisism of the water in general. Specifically, the way the waves are stretched wider in one direction, resulting in "lines" of them across the surface. Now, maybe this was intentional to imitate how waves really look in wind, but it just doesn't look very nice when drawn.

Now for some reason, it DOES look better than the last time I tried water=3 (so do the trees), but it's still not very nice, and it's distracting to always have the water shimmering like there are tiny bugs crawling along the surface. I can't really illustrate that with screenshots, but, I'll at least point to what I'm refering to.

Just did a quick test with water=3, perfect settings and 78.01 driveres on my Geforce7800GT.

Result:
- Can confirm the flickering water (between dark/light blue color)

- The water=3 stuttering which occurs only above land, and mostly at low level, is still present (I'm talking about the stuttering which occurs about twice per second over land, even though frame rates are high. Described in the nvidia thread)

I just want to point out something to the programmer working on this, an observation I made that might be IMPORTANT:

From my bechmark results, made in fraps, the stuttering seems to be a result of framerate INCREASING in short bursts. Look here (http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~thomb/download/pf_graph1.png), where the stuttering occurs at the first third of the red graph. Note that the framerate doesn't drop, it increases!

Now, there are only two ways to interpret this:
1. Fraps is inaccurate, my results are wrong.
2. PF is not able to handle uneven fps rates properly, probably due to the timing code. (My theory is that the PF engine assumes constant framerates over a certain time interval, and doesn't poll the hardware timer often enough). Now if this is the case, it is not necessary to optimize PF like you are trying with these dlls (?), since the problem is not slow rendering (in the water=3 case anyway).

In this test flight my framerate was around 40-60 fps, and the stuttering that occurs twice per second seems to be caused by a few of the frame renderings suddenly taking shorter time.
Beware though, for all I know my results may be wrong, since I have no way of checking the reliability of fraps' frame time function. (Timing on such small time intervals may be very unreliable, depending on the implementation)

More observations on the stuttering:
- When reducing simulation speed (to 1/2, 1/4), the stuttering occurs at a slower rate too.
- When increasing the load on the graphics card, by increasing quality settings in the driver, the stuttering gets worse. When over land, the plane only moved half the time, "standing still" 0.3-0.5 seconds. (I will make a new benchmark of this, and try to see if more than one frame was rendered in this time interval)
- Same problem with the most recent nvidia beta driver.

Observations made earlier, by others:
- No stuttering with the 71.25(?) drivers, but with every other driver after that one

still get water stutters aswell

if it is the faster fps suddenly, i wonder if its possible to cap the fps to see if that fixes it.

and i just thought, if the water is scaled up like in my pc, then that may reduce the workload..
if im right, then doubling the scale, would quarter the workload for a given area.. and it would probably help the shimmer in the middle distance

Ok, I have done two more tests, here is the first one where I tried vsync on, resulting in the framerate jumping between 30 and 60. (running at 1280x960, 60 Hz). I am aware that framerate jumping gets worse this way, but that is irrelevant. The framerate jumping also occurs with vsync off (as you will see in my next test)

The fps graph with info:
pf_fps_vsync60.png (http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~thomb/download/pf_fps_vsync60.png)

Here are the frame rendering times i used to generate that graph:
rendertimes.txt (http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~thomb/download/rendertimes.txt)
It seems that the occational 1-4 frames with faster render times are what causes the stuttering.

If you want it, here is the original data from fraps:
frames1.txt (http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~thomb/download/frames1.txt)

I used the 78.01 driver in this test, and the new dlls from this thread. I had the same stuttering with the 81.85 drivers, though with the original 4.02m dlls.

thomb314
10-20-2005, 11:41 PM
Ok, here is the second test, this time with vsync off.

The fps graph (with info):
pf_graph_vsyncoff.png (http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~thomb/download/pf_graph_vsyncoff.png)

The render times:
rendertimes2.txt (http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~thomb/download/rendertimes2.txt)

A typical stutter looks like this in the render times list (with 1-3 short frames):
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms -- ...
15 ms -- normal
12 ms -- normal
9.7 ms -- short
9.1 ms -- short
9.9 ms -- short
15 ms -- normal
15 ms -- normal
15 ms -- ...
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
15 ms
</pre>

Strangely, this happening 2-3 times per second is enough to ruin the playability.

The original data from fraps:
frames2.txt (http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~thomb/download/frames2.txt)

Hope this gives a clue to whoever is trying to fix the problem http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would think the options are:
1. try to make the framerate more constant, or
2. have a second look at the timing code and the code for updating the movement of objects, making it cope with unstable rendering times

Didn't test fps much but IQ looks a bit better in most situations. The thing that has me sold on them right now is the decreased stuttering over cities or active bases. I did some online fighting and deliberately dove down over an enemy target city with flak and low-level AAA going off with noticeably less stutter. A few times I was in a 4-6 plane furball low over a base and active target city and didn't realize until afterwards that there was no stutter. (I never had too much anyway, but it was noticeably absent when I really looked for it).

fps tests today.

My two cents:

Water=3, perfect settings and 81.85 drivers (I tested 71.25 with same results, except stutering)on my Geforce 6800GT. No texture compression and nVidia aniso optimizations ON on nVidia panel.

Results:

- Flickering water. Very annoying. Looks like if the cloud shadows were crazy.
- Stuttering, the same exact one as with the "normal" .dll´s.

Sorry, no progress has been made with those libraries.

Which drivers? I tested your tip, including the Rivatuner option (I always have enabled that option anyway), and I have exact same stuttering as with no texture compression.

Are you sure you are not using 71.25? :-)

Also, some observations for programmers:
FACT: Snow maps have not stuttering. The problem must be located on the water programming.
FACT: 71.25 has no stuttering. Find what make this drivers to work flawless (even w/o missing parts on 4.01m) and you´ll have a winner.

I really hope they find a solution. Latest nVidia drivers are really good for some modern games, and I would love to change the 71.25 drivers for modern ones.

LOL! YOu must be the only one with stutter on 71.25 drivers!
I tested all your tweaks, and no luck. Anyway, I think that Texture Precache and Texture Direct Load dont make a difference on performance since the old drivers on Geforce 3 and 4.

Effects=0 affects only to explosions and smoke and does not have any relation with the continous stuttering discussed here.

Please, make a test:
-Load B24vsKi61 track.
-Use manual view. Look directly from above (external view) to the Ki61 once arrives inland.
-Cant note pauses?

Man, if you dont have pauses, you are very lucky.

Can you try different setting to see if are really your tweaks the reason of the lack of stuttering in your rig?

Thanks!

I know nothing about that track but while testing those pauses make sure they are not caused by AI planes repawning first.

I get much smoother game play without sound. I believe the timing issue is related to the sound card.

I get the exact same stuttering with sound disabled, about twice per second when flying low level over land. I think the problem is pretty much isolated now, it has only got to do with:

1. water=3:
2. nvidia driver version > 71.25
3. flying low level above land in a map that contains water

It has nothing to do with sound, AI planes or anything else.

I did a new test running at 640x480 now, with vsync on, in an attempt to "lock" the framerate at 60 Hz (prevent jumping up and down).

It did have an effect, I could no longer see the twice per second microstuttering over land. Instead I got a completely different kind of stuttering. The fraps results support this observation:

This time the rendering times seem completely random, and I am unable to make a distinction between flying above land and water in the framerate data.

FPS/IQ: fps on average higher with new dll. Water=3 shows lots of micro stutters in either

case, so hard to say which dll perform better in the micro stutter department, because in both

cases they are pretty bad. It's much more likely that this is caused by nvidia's 81.85 driver.

In spite of higher fps, water=3 is not playable with latest whql driver. Overall IQ: New dll's

show a lot more shimmering and flashing textures.

water=3, Black Death, new dll:

fps/IQ: shimmering somewhat reduced but still there. No micro stutters.

########################
Conclusion
########################

FPS: fps on average higher and noticeable with new dll with water=3. Water=2 however shows no
significant increase in fps.

IQ: New dll's show a lot more shimmering and flashing textures with water=3. Looks like new
dll's have problems with filtering.

Microstutters: Nvidia 81.85 produces unplayable micro stutters with water=3 whatever the driver
settings are. 70.80 are much smoother and don't produce these micro stutters.

Avg. fps are not causing this, since 81.85 give higher fps on average than 70.80.

E.g.
81.85: 1st 2 tracks from !all_pf, water=3, new dll: Avg: 58.778
70.80: 1st 2 tracks from !all_pf, water=3, new dll: Avg: Avg: 57.223
81.85: Black death, water=3, Black Death, new dll: Avg: 35.511 - Min: 15 - Max: 58
70.80: Black death, water=3, Black Death, new dll: Avg: 33.025 - Min: 13 - Max: 55

New dll increases fps significantly but at reduced quality. Nvidia's 81.85 produce micro
stutters and is completely incapable or running water=3, so better Stick to 70.80 when using
XP64 if you want to run this mode.

New dll's look promising when filtering errors are fixed, but older Nvidia drivers like 70.80
(XP32 71.25) are a lot better than the latest nvidia drivers when it comes to run Il2 with
water=3.

No, there is nothing going on in the map. I normally chose the default Quick Mission with no other aircraft than my own. If other objects were causing the stuttering, we should get stutters with water=1 also. Remember, this is a water=3 specific issue, and there is no lack of system resources. The stuttering doesn't even show up in the built in fps counter. (I'm looking at 50-60 fps and stuttering)

This is a very systematic stuttering that only occurs when land textures are occupying a major portion of the screen. If I am at a coast-line, looking left towards the sea -> no stuttering, look right so land covers a major portion of the screen -> stuttering. It starts at the exact moment when land textures are beginning to occupy say 50-80 percent of the screen (when passing a coast line). The stuttering depends on whether I look down at ground textures or not.

This is so systematic that it has to do with water/land rendering. (It could be something like optimizations kicking in in the shaders/graphics drivers when the water is hidden under terrain)

If AI objects were suddenly eating CPU power, we would probably get moments with low fps, but that's not what happens. We are suddenly getting bursts of high fps. Strange, huh?

My game is liquid smooth now.

I found that Tir2 has poo-poo'ed all over my registry. After fixing that, I found that a lot of old stale drivers were hanging around.

I cleaned all that up and upgraded to latest nvidia drivers. Lastly I set pci latency to 64 again and now my junk runs like new.

New dlls are smooth and look ok. I use water 3 and old shaders. 60 fps all the time.

CrazyIvan thanks for the beta's. I get a smoother frame rate with less micro studders.....but I clearly get poorer picture quality. On my vanilla 6800 it appears that AA and AF is turned off or down with the beta's. I can't give up the eye candy....

Thanks for the files...

First, the difference between the New and Old dll's visually: the best way I can describe it is that the New files give a sharper image. This was especially noticable on the coastines and ridgelines.

I did some FPS Tests using "Ki-61 vs B-24" track - I used this track because I wanted to see if I got the stutters Luke was talking about (No stutters with new or old. But, on my first run with the Old dll's, I did get a couple of quick pauses at the start of the track, but that was probably when AI (etc.) loaded and didn't repeat...even as I got feet dry.)
-----------
NEW dll's

Water=1
Avg=48 Max=54 Min=27

Water=2
Avg=40 Max=53 Min=23
(Looked good.)

Water=3
Avg=36 Max=50 Min=20
(Sounds like this has already been reported: The way I would describe it is that the lighting on (or of) the water pulses, or cycles through altered lighting states, almost continuously.)

-----------
OLD dll's

Water=1
Avg=48 Max=52 Min=27

Water=2
Avg=41 Max=51 Min=19

Water=3
Avg=29 Max=51 Min=11
(Slightly jerky on occasion, corresponding to when fps was low.)

-----------
Water=3 FPS is improved with the new dll's, except it picked up the annoying lighting pulses, changes in lighting, on the water. FPS for water=1 and water=2 was pretty similar between New and Old dll files.

[Note: I did not use default nVidia settings for the tests, but settings remained the same for all tests. Game settings were set to default for 6800, and using Perfect setting.]

No stuttering in any test. But, I never did have stutters - my problem is that PF locks up occasionally, depending on the drivers used. 77.77 OK for now with 4.02m.

I'd may have to run through these tests again with a different driver set (or two).

What do you mean by old shaders? ForceShaders1x=1 ?

I noticed something more about the stuttering too: the rate at which it occurs is proportional to aircraft speed, meaning it might be happening at specific geometric positions. Testing at 1/2 and 1/4 simulation speed confirms this.

Still using the beta dlls from this thread.

As you can see, a dramatic difference. I think they are on to something here.

They are not without fault. There is a slight stutter when the IL-2 is bombing the transport column and the camera is overhead. This is not very noticable; nothing like what I first saw with the 4.02m release which drove me back to 66.81

Its a keeper!

I also noticed the flickering of the water with the new ddls.

Couldn't it be posible that the entire shader 3 of the water to be reworked? Cause with this one the fps drop is very abrupt and the water is realy looking good only from close distance. That shimmering that was mentioned before is ruining it.

Ofcourse I dont have any programing skills so I might be talking nonsens.

I had a lot of 1-2sec stutter as people mentionned above when flying the F4UTT video with the Corsairs flying low above land.

With the new DLLs the problem is almost completely solved !

F4UTT Video results:
Before (with missing textures) fps:41 avg:35 max:155
Before (no missing textures but stutters)fps:42 avg:35 max:154

Now !fps:61 avg:48 max:140

For reference, my results playing the Kamikaze02 video
avg fps: 35

Maybe it is my impression, but the water now is very dark.

Many thanks guys! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

PS. OK, maybe I will change my signature...

I have very big problems with the new dll. FPS hits of 30% on the russian maps with water set to 2.
Settings all to max and AA 4x.
FPS around 30 (With new clouds) goes down to 19 and stutters.
With water fps hits of 50% when looking on the water.

I have very big problems with the new dll. FPS hits of 30% on the russian maps with water set to 2.
Settings all to max and AA 4x.
FPS around 30 (With new clouds) goes down to 19 and stutters.
With water fps hits of 50% when looking on the water.

Uninstalled 71.25 and installed the latest WHQL 81.85 for my 6800gt using water=1 land reflections from rivers, lakes and the ocean, no longer flicker like they did with 71.25. The reflections IMO look better with this driver, also, I have checked it using both old and new DLL's and it appears the same. I haven't done any testing with water=3 using either DLL's, anyway this driver looks promising. I'm also going to see if 3.04 still has missing textures with these as a matter of interest.

Test: 4.02merged TheBlackDeath.
Same settings as my original post.
New DLL'S 28 24 73 10
Old DLL's 24 21 76 9
1. IMO reflection flickering is related to water=3
2. New DLL's flicker more than the original DLL's.
3. There is a flicker on distant water, switching from light to dark, strange?
4. New DLL's make track play-back far less jerky.
5. Game version 3.04 doesn't appear to have missing textures with Nvidia WHQL 81.85 drivers.

I've been seeing some corruptions of the water when running water=1. They are very brief, usually when changing views. The water looks like a fuzzy green explosion for a few frames. It's too quick to get a screen shot of. I'm updatting to the latest nVidia drivers, I'll see if it persists.

Ivan, I checked these optimized dlls with a gForce 3 64meg card and see no differnce then the original dlls. FPS remained the same and quality was the same. Hope that was what you were looking for?

Conclusion:

New and beta dll's hardly differ when water=2 ( already knew that ;-), but only with water=3.

No surprise there. However, when only using a il2_coreP4.dll and renaming it to il2_core.dll,
you'll get a slightly higher average framerate (~ 3%) on a AMD cpu.

I guess when an AMD cpu is used, the P4 dll is not loaded (as it should be?) and the normal, less optimized, il2_core.dll is used.

It appears you can also just remove the original or beta il2_core.dll and rename the P4 dll for AMD cpu's and get slightly higher average framerates.

Maybe others can confirm this.

I will give this a go, though I'll use the new il2_corep4.dll. This will give even more of a speed boost hopefully, is this idea correct or a waste of time?

ManicGibber,

I got even slightly higher fps with the old P4.dll than with the new p4.dll (I tested with water=2), but the difference is very small. The difference with the il2_core.dll seems however to be significant on a AMD cpu.

Perhaps we should run more and longer tests to see which one is really faster ;-)

I did not bench water=3, because 81.87 has the micro stutters and the new beta dll is afaik specially tuned for water=3.

Let me know if you get better results ;-)

Water 3 glitches with the new DLLs for me. I run a 6600GT. It's almost playable offline with water 3 for me with a minimum framerate ~ 19fps.

New dlls seem to produce fewer microstutters, so I think they're a step in the right direction, if only the quality of the old dlls can be restored.

So far I get slightly better frames.... and not too much of a temp increase either... No glitches at all that I have seen.

Thanks Mark,
I have done a good bit of testing with the new p4core.dll renamed as il2_core.dll and it gives me the best fps, testing with water=3 and also water=1.
In my conf.ini I use water=3, effects=1, 3dgunners=1, typeclouds=1, shadows=1, resolution 1152x864@85hz in vid control panel 4xaa, 4xaf, vsync on, image settings quality and I'm getting these FPS.
With the new p4core, 29fps 25avg 76max 11min.
With the old p4core, 25fps 22avg 81max 10min.
With the new core, 28fps 24avg 74max 10min.
With the old core, 24fps 21avg 71max 10min.
Quite a large increase from the original core to the new p4core, a 19% increase on the average fps. The new core is smoother on my system and the new p4core is also smooth, I'll be keeping this p4core unless even better ones come out.

With the old core, 24fps 21avg 71max 10min.
"

Hmmm, 19% is quite a bit more, but don't you have the flickering effect (filtering errors) with the beta p4 core?

The beta p4 core is faster, but the flickering prevents me from using water=3.

Perhaps you should also try to use water=2 and the beta p4 core to test if you'll get a 3% increase in avg fps like I did ;-)

If it's true, maybe a post about this in the community help is warranted...

Haven't replied as I had to do a fresh install of my OS. Yes, I do get flickering with water=3
It is annoying but I will live with it till it's fixed, I'll also test water=2.
I don't use water=2 since reading Steve_V,saying not to use it as it was intended for development use.

I skipped to the last page, so pardon if this has all ready been answered.
I'm volunteering for testing, albeit with my old Nvidia 5200/128Mb/77.77 card and AEP2.04. Let me know if I can help.

so what is the conclusion from all this 5 pages of feedback ?

it be helpfull if ivan can give us a summary of what oleg has concluded and whom exactly should be using this fix. i presume it is intended to finally solve the stutter bug that 6600/6800 users have been complaining about (and is different from the gf7800 users that had micro stutters on water = 3), right ?

is this 6600/6800 dll fix only helpfull for p4 users, and not amd cpu users ?

it would also be helpfull if oleg/ivan could make a specific recomendation for what drivers to use for geoforce cards at the moment, and indicate what they have used for inhouse testing of bug fixes. with so many people using different components and hardware, that advice at least should make fixing il2 somewhat easier (the 4.02 readme doesnt sugest a specific driver afaik)

it seems that 81.85 is one of the first drivers for geoforce that again seems to be working reasonabally well for 6600/6800 cards, so is this what we are all expected to use ?

Video drivers are IMHO always a preference for individual users.
I have built identical pc's before and had different results graphically.
The whole driver issue is test and stick with the ones your systems likes be it fps increase of visually better looking.
I usually test 4-5 drivers on a new system and sometimes find that the latest isnt always the best to install.

Apparently all this is not an easy fix... i wish i could participate in this test. As soon as i know something, or new version becomes available... i`ll let you all know. Oleg knows about this thread, i am sure he reads it.

I been getting this bug since 4.02 on the horizon every so often, Im using a leadtek 6800GT and 81.85 drivers, I tried a uninstall of drivers then use driver cleaner 3 pro to clean reboot and reinstall the drivers from nvidias site and get the same problem,

I get the same problem with the new dlls as well, im getting slightly better fps but get pauses every now and then with the new dlls.

ivan,

thanks for your answer

I´ve been testing new drivers after new drivers since the new dll´s come out, and always had the same results:
1. New dlls: Stutter + "flickering" in the distance, mainly on water.
2. Old dlls: Stutter.

I hope something could be done with this problem, because a lot of new games need newer drivers to run properly, so 71.25´s are not an option now.

Thanks Ivan for keep us informed.

I also have flickering at the top of the water ,but water is much better and the frame rate is improved.
I have a 6600GT running #8204 drivers
settings on perfect.

Tested some latest modded drivers and 81.95 WHQL. Still terrible stutters and flashes with new dll´s. :-(

I hope will be a new test .dll pack soon for test.

Hi luke, a shot in the dark here, but are you overclocking your 6800? I get stutters+flashing water only when over-overclocking (if that word exists http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif), but when setting a milder OC or just no overclock at all, everything is fine, both with the regular and the new dll's. Running 81.95WHQL drivers and 6800Ultra.
Btw, with the new dll's (no renamings) it looks smoother to me, no noticeable FPS change though.

Cheers,
S.

Seriously..really seriously what are DLL's? With a Geforce 5800 should I even bother to try these? ?Will they screw up the game that for the moment is running perfectly fine ( except if there is too much flak from ships..) Honestly can anyone tell me if I should step up & volunteer?

Thanks for the tip, mate, but unfortunately, the stutter still is there. IMHO, is a driver problem that cant be solved tweaking the system.

The only hope are the next test .dll´s or special nVidia drivers (that seeing how they have done NOTHING for the problems that have been happening to the sim, I doubt they take a moment to compare 71.25 drivers with all the new ones, for finding what make those so special).

I'm awaiting patiently for a fix for the micrstutters. As a few others mentioned, nvidia 71.25/66.93 is no longer an option as too many newer games require the latest drivers. I would like to hear 1C or Oleg respond to this. I'm hoping they have a lead and is pursuing it to finally put the microstutter issue behind us.

Well, it's smooth until you do a ground attack mission. Try doing a quick mission using IL2 and armor as your target. See if you get a "ticking" effect as you get close to the ground. Fly low to the ground and look at the ground go by...let me know if it's still smooth like oil.

Well also on big cities i dont have big stutters, lets say almost noone..but of course fps go a bit down...

if you like i can make you a little video with fraps or i post you my rig details.

And well i use only 2xQ AA and no AF..maybe are you using too much filters ?

buddywoof
11-30-2005, 07:06 PM
no i'm not using any filters. also, this happens even if you set the game at 640 x 480. It happens opengl with "perfect" settings. Doesn't happen with nvidia 66.93, 71.25 but happens on almost all other drivers. Something broke and been broken for a long long time now.

I have a pretty vanilla machine
6800gt
asus k8vse deluxe
1 gig corsair ram
amd 64 3200+
Hitachi sata

I mean, it's a pretty common configuration.

I am having a problem with white flashing water textures. I have tried different drivers up to the early 8X.XX series. The only ones that are useable are the 66.93 version. Tired the new Dll's and they didn't provide any noticable help for me......Anyone else have flashing with water?

I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference with the new .dll's. Maybe a litle smoother. Splurging on 2GB RAM has made more difference than anything else. V-card: 6800GT. Settings: 1280x960, 4xAA, 4xAF, Perfect Landscape (water=1), TypeClouds=1, "quality" image settings (NV Control Panel), V-synch off. Driver is 81.95.

Still getting an occasional hitch when AI exercise poor radio discipline.

No offense but..
How many times needs to be repeated?: TEST WATER=3
The problems are only with Water=3 settings.
The new .dll´s are for trying to solve the stuttering on WATER=3.
No noticeable difference between drivers if you dont use WATER=3. 71.25: OK, Others: ****

OK?

Luke, you took the words right out of my mouth. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes, the problem we are trying to solve is the stuttering at low level flight when water=3.

Any update from 1C?????

Thanks!

The link doesn't work because it isn't needed. Those "better graphic" dlls have been part of the game for almost 2 years.

That's the problem with necroposting to a long dead thread.
