Air to air gunnery has been discussed many times in this forum, but I always wondered why people don't use track files to show the hard bits like difficult deflection shots. Perhaps we can correct this by filling this thread with the most extreme ones. I recorded the following yesterday offline and the nice bit happens at 2:13.

Scorpius

PS The file is recorded on IL2 FB with software version 1.11

Great little track('cept the landing was pretty rough, eheh). What do you use to pan around? I'm assuming it isn't your hat switch?

My fav is taking the wing of an overconfident 109 at 600m with the 37mm cannon on the IL2-3M. He just appeared there and I stabbed the button..... boom.

Same here. I was in an IL2-3M. I had a -109 way, way above me. I pulled back the stick, pointed my nose at him and let loose one round. A second later... "BOOM!"

What a (lucky) shot!

Hard deflection shots?
Naa I just wait till their aircraft fills me windscreen before I open fire, and evade at 600+ km/h
Sometimes too I like to dive in right behind them and fire a burst to their left, and immediately kick right rudder, and hammer down on everything.
9 times out of 10 they bank right into my rounds. Or at least that how 9 times out of 10 I make I-16's explode in my F-2.

Every take-off is optional, but every landing is mandatory!

Bruno and I have created a graphic utility based on excel to represent all the variables and the scenarios of the deflection shots. You can set all the parameters, from the speed, distance, type of guns, target, drag, vertical offset gunsight and much more. It's in Italian but an "international" version will be out in few days, as soon as the translation of the manual is complete. Beyond the practice, that represents the focal point, I hope this utility will help too /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Is the Italian version available anywhere, for those of us who can speak the lingo?

Cheers.
