View Full Version : German-speaking crewmembers can't read!

Looking at the speed telegraph, the german voices are obviously speaking the wrong orders. Below, see whats on the telegraph and what they're saying:

Langsamme - "Ein drittel" (One third ahead)
Halbe - "Grosse fart" (Ahead standard)
Grosse - "Fulle fart" (Ahead full)
Auss - "Vansinnige fart" (Ahead flank)

Is having those orders re-recorded to what they're supposed to be too expensive, or perhaps this is something that could be modded by one of our german-speaking submariners?

This is supposed to be slang, even in "Das Boot" the captain said "Wahnsinnige" for ahead flank one time.

There's a soundmod somewhere with the voices from Das Boot.

A small observation:
I don't know german, but i do know swedish which can sometimes be sort of similar.
The german "Wahnsinnige fart" sounds quite like the swedish "Vansinnig fart", which in english means "Insane speed".

I do speak German, and BoOork has it right. Most of the speed orders use the wrong sound files (they're mixed up), and 'wahnsinnige fahrt voraus' should be 'dreimal wahnsinnige'.

So am i right or wrong about the "insane" part?

Are you sure it's not "Ludicrous speed"?

Unikhorne

Whats the differance?
Edit: After more closely checking up on the word ludicrous i'm pretty sure that insanity is a much better translation.

Yeah wahnsinnig means insane, and Gullian is having a laugh. "Ludicrous speed" comes from Space Balls a comedy film from way back.

Ludicrous Speed?!??!?! But no one has ever gone that fast.

<prepare ship>....!ahem! prepare ship, for ludicrous speed.

I wondered how many people would get the reference. I get the impression that games like this have a higher proportion of older players, and there's a whole generation of gamers out there who've probably never even heard of Spaceballs, much less seen it. It wasn't even one of Mel Brooks' better movies.

"Now tell us the code for the enigma machine!"

"It's one, two, three, four, five."

I thought Spaceballs was his best movie! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Hehe!! My thoughts exactly! The first time i heard the XO say "Wahnsinnige Fahrt" it cracked me up instantly. I imagined him wearing that giant helmet and having trouble getting inside the boat with it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And i'm German, mind you! It indeed translates to "insane speed" which sounds totally ridiculous. It should be "Ӟußerste Fahrt vorraus" ("Aeusserste", if those characters shouldn't work properly for you), which would be the proper equivalent for "flank speed ahead".

Aren't the 'Volle fahrt voraus' and 'grosse fahrt voraus' mixed up as well? Shouldn't 'grosse fahrt' be the second fastest speed? Also, is 'Volle fahrt' right? Shouldn't it be 'halbe fahrt' like the dial says?

Yeah, it's all mixed up a little. Don't know what they were thinking.

LOL!

I obviously do not speak German, but it's almost worth playing the game with all German speech to hear a bunch of guys in a small enclosed non-ventilated steel capsule calling out what looks to me to be references to passing gas!

IE:

Vanishing Fart (my translation: "silent but deadly")

Full Fart (my translation: "That was a BIG one! Check your pants, Hans")

Gross Fart (my translation: "No more sauerkraut for your Ernst...my eyes are watering!)

Hine Dribble (my translation: "Geeeze, that one sounded WET Gunther...did you and Hans get into the beer rations together?")

I apologize to all my german freinds out there, but I had no idea my crew were such poor mannered jokesters. No wonder they tire so easily...the oxygen levels in the sub are being replaced by methane!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Okay, THAT is offensive and funny at the same time.

Here is my german speech mod, with original orders from the movie "DAS BOOT".

Check out this thread:

Hehe... i think he sharted! ("Along Came Polly" anyone?) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Oh, even though it might ruin this joke: in fact it's "Fahrt" and not "Fart" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If you wanna ask someone in German, wether he farted, ask "Hast du gefurzt?". Or more polite: "Hast du gepupst?".

Errm... i think this thread is getting out of hand! Sorry. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

a bit back on track...

Did any of the german speakers find that the message may say 'New course 326' but the guy is saying 'New course 324' or 322, 328... it's always close but rarely it is actually what the message says. Did they have a Pisa Study back in the 30's? hehehehe

Let's not derail it any more than it already is, but Psycho, you should really see Young Frankenstein, The Producers, and Blazing Saddles to see his best movies.
