This is a question to whoever has played the game. Will the player be able to hear a destroyers propeller noise if they are overhead? You know like in Das Boot when they heard the propeller noises then soon after the depth charges fell.

I thought that you heard a ship's cavitation, not their propellors.

Edit: Now that I think about it, when a sonarman reports a contact, he is hearing that contact's cavitation. Just so you know, cavitation is made when a ship's propellor(s) form bubbles, and passive sonar can detect this somehow. It is caused by the period of revolution of a propellor being too fast. This is always a problem for surface ships. However, sumarines can go fast underwater and not cavitate because cavitation is related to depth, as increased pressure prevents bubbles from forming (not sure how that works). However, if you were close enough to a ship, I'm sure you could hear the propellors themselves.

You'll hear that for sure. If the propeller stops you'll even hear the captain farting.

Why the f***ck did the developers limited the sound quality to 1024x768 Hz ???? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

mannionmax, i think your question is quite simple to answer ; yes you will hear ships navigating over you, and yes if this is the case you'll ave to fear the consequences http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I think that guy just wanted to know if you have such an effect like in the movie "das boot" when a destroyer is just running over the boat everyone inside could here its screws not just the sonar guy.
