I'm flyin' along, and a flight of Bf-109G's appear on my 12. I fly straight for them, and single out one plane in the center of their formation for my target. We get closer and closer and both of our guns are blazing away. I'm hoping to blow him away and scatter him before we collide. No such luck. A sad result. That happens in all of the Combat Flight Sim games i play. Pitiful. Anyone wanna share old embarassing war stories?

i hate fighting the 'rookie' ai planes, who think its a great evasive maneuver to fly around forever in a perfect circle. what i hate more is that i'm stupid enough to fall for it, and usually just stay on his six, never gaining on him, when i could easily cut him off. man i suck

My biggest downfall is over zealous diving passes. That and not being able to clear six once someone is on it. What bothers me most is when I'm straffing, and I'm so VERY confident that I can get those precious few more shells in to that pesky tank if I just..... BOOM /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

2 almost very embarrasing moments.

I was flying an IL-2 with a torpedo and going after a German destroyer. I dropped the torpedo, pulled up and flew over the destroyer. The ship nailed me with AA fire just a I flew over him and I went down several hundred meters on the far side of the ship. I quickly switched to the external view to see if I scored a hit with my torpedo. I watched as the torpedo just barely missed the stern of the ship. I kept watching as it seemed to find a new target - me! It only missed me by several meters.

Another time I was flying a MIG and I came screaming down on three Heinkels making a torpedo run on some of my ships. I pumped some rounds into the lead Heinkel and then dropped underneath him to avoid hitting him as I was flying quite a bit faster than he was. Just as I started to pull underneath him I saw something come off the Heinkel. He dumped his torpedos to try and stay in the air and nearly got torpedoed my Mig.

Yeah, I've been hit by planes dropping ordnance before. Once I was attacking some HE-111's from high and astern and as I passed under one he dropped his bombs. The resulting explosion killed not only myself but 3 other bombers as well.

Thats ok, I fly the stuka online and I seem to have a nack for escaping the target area by flying directly into the thickest concentration of enemy fighters! Good for my lack of patience, bad for my longevity in the air! [not to mention my wingmans]

Remember: It's not just a job, it's a chance to bomb the crap out of everything you see and NOT get called a dirty vulcher!

I've been "target fixated" while strafing quite a few times, and left a crater 12 o'clock to the intended target more often than I'd like to admit. My favorite was flying one of the Experten Vol. 1 missions, when I got a little low strafing a truck convoy. How low? I bumped the tailwheel on the ground without digging in the prop. Good thing the Emil's tailwheel doesn't retract.

Despatch the last bandit. Breathe huge sigh of relief. Throttle back. Get run over by my wingman.

Trying to blow up a guy trying to land, I end up going so low that my prop digs in and my sliding airframe goes right under him, knocking off both of his landing struts with my cockpit. We both end up wrecked on the runway /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
