What are gamers using these days (I took a LONG break from flight sim gaming)

My trusty old Sidewinder 2 does not work in Vista.

I need a twist grip and a throttle tab, as I am just a semi-casual gamer and do not want to buy rudder pedals and a throttle quadrant.

I tried a logitech Extrene 3D Pro and dont like it at all. The axis are way too stiff to make flying comfortable.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

First off the logitechs are pretty darn bad, had a x3d for 1 year and it broke down on me.

The cheapest and pretty descent sticks for not that much cash is the Saitek ones. Can be found at most retailers, not that expensive. I have the cyborg evo, and Im very happy with it. The avi8tor has gotten some good reviews, havent tried it myself.

If you are willing to spend a bit more dough there is the x52 from saitek, in where you get both the thottle and a stick (a so called HOTAS), a bit more expensive though.

And for the die hard fans with a big budget, there is the CH products. I personally haven't seen one of them, but from what I've heard they are the best

I would recommend a Cyborg evo, or the Avi8tor(aviator) as a starter. They have all the stuff you need to play this game.

Saitek sells some reconditioned products where you can get some of their stuff pretty cheaply

and a lot of users here have some sort of head tracking, but recently a couple of french fellas made a free program called Freetrack (search to forum for it, the thread "free head tracking") which utilizes a webcam and LEDs.

Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions

My MS FFB Sidewinder 2 works with Vista (64) ? ? ?

You can't use the packaged software but vista has drivers for it.

Mine to (Vista 64 Ultimate). Bought a Saitek Evo Force a year ago as I thought that something must have happended the last 5 years with hardware like that but nope. It's gathering dust in a cupboard now. The effects in IL2 are not nearly as good as the FFB2, stalls are not nearly as distinct etc...
