Why can't we have a numbering system like the "Kate" and "Val" for the A6M's in PF?
The current monstrous numbering is totaly unhistoric.
I can't belive that the most well known Japanese a/c is treated this way from a serious WWII sim.

Bump!

And replace those horrible default skins for the A6M3-5 models too.

A bunch of planes named ZERO or ZEKE wouldn't make a lot of sense. Except for the Rufe, ZERO or ZEKE (interchangeably) was the name for all the A6Ms in the game.

The Kate is a B5N and the Val is a D3A1.

It however wouldn't hurt to have them named something like A6M5a "Zero", but historically that's not how planes have been named in this game.

BTW historically "Mitsubishi A6M5" would be the correct name. Zero is more of a slang term.

I think the original poster was refering to the ginormous "01" and "02" that appear on the side of the aircraft if set markings to "on". You could have the coolest looking skin in the world but if you turn those markings on the plane looks ridiculous.

Oh... Ok... in that case...

Never Mind http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

So... how were they numbered in real life?

I'm not talking about naming.I'm talking about numbering, refering to the Graphics that put the call numbers to planes in external views(TGA and MAT files). These are monstrous and totaly unhistorical for the A6M.
On the contrary B5Ns and D3A1s have a very nice and historical way of numbering and this antithesis makes me mad.

Ya, sory I should have noticed your post total and realized you wouldn't make such a silly mistake. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif My bad ok.

From taking a quick look around it looks like they should only have small tail numbers. Is that right?

Here is an example: the first one is from carrier Akagi the second one from Tainan Kokutai

Ya, that fits with what I was seeing when I looked around for pictures. I see what you mean, hopefully it will get fixed.

Why coudn't they just made it like the numbering on D3A1?
D3A1 in sim has a fairy accurate numbering.
