Grrrr.....one day I had to spend 4 hours learning each and every variant of that d@mned plane. Never want to see it again.

They have it linked in the 1942 area but with the invasion stripes wasnt this picture taken from 44 on?

Or did some of the British aircraft have these markings prior to 1944? If so it would kind of defete the purpose of the invasion stripes being painted the night before D-day.

thats a early typhoon, could well be a 42 model
they did have those markings before d day, to stop ppl thinking they was fw190's and shooting them.

pic was probably taken after d day tho

Yeah, they're not D-Day stripes. If you look closely the black stripes are far narrower than the white - these are the special ID stripes painted on early Typhoons to distinguish them from '190s and such, since they'd only recently entered service.
