Hi Guys, I just desired a couple of answers to some questions. First, was the P-47 used extensively in the Pacific Theatre? I also would like to know what power to weight ratio is, what would having a higher one do for you, what advantages does it confer? I'll be grateful for any replies. Take care and see ya in the air http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes it was used fairly extensively in the Pacific, but not as much as in Europe. It showed up later in the PT and was not as significant because Navy & Marine fighters did alot of the work. The P-38 also ran alot better in the warmer climate of the Pacific so it initially filled the place the P-47 was designed for. Long range escort.

There was even a Mexican Squadron that flew P-47's in the Pacific if I remember correctly.

High power to weight ratio gives good acceleration and good sustained climb performance (and with certain other considerations also helps with carrying larger payloads).
