With the news of PF going GOLD and reports saying it will ship end of this month, I see some saying it could be in stores by 24th? either way it will be with out in about 3 weeks (if not a little sooner)..

Why have we not seen a Demo? And will we see one?

Why not see a demo?

Because they were busy with the actual game itself. Demo would have taken weeks out of the cycle to complete.

Will we see one?

I think it'd be a good idea but I'm not sure if we'll see one or not.

A lot of games these days aren't bringing demos out till after release. Almost seems pointless, given a demo's purpose is to give people a taste and make them wanna buy it...

I don't know...I saw the original IL2 on the shelf, read the box, went home and played the demo (poorly) before actually getting it.

I remember thinking...yeah right, these are actually screenshots...pffffttt! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Almost seems pointless if you, like us, already own the "primary game". http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

But there are countless heathens who have not tasted the glory that is IL2. Much less have any idea what this genre is all about. So, for all of us, the release date is enough for the company to release it. They know that they're going to make money from us. But, the demo is for the gamer out there who was going into his/her local shop for the latest FPS only to see this on the shelves next to it. They'll buy the FPS, but visit the site for the demo. Demo isn't necessary first in that regard.

Don't get me wrong, it would be cool to have the demo first. But, I'm buying the game almost as soon as it comes out, if not sooner, if possible.

Again, the news I have from the pimply faced kid at EBGames is that PF will be in on November 20th, so relax and enjoy what you've got!

EB has been wrong in the past.... Many, many times over in fact. But, that's just from my experience. As they aren't producing/distributing the game, I tend to doubt their credibility in these matters. Though we are in agreement. It will get here when it gets here, and not a moment sooner.

there is no demo and there wont be one till after the game has been released for a while.

thats just the way it is. you want a demo? fly F.B. and imagine the game about three times better.

also the release date was stated as middle november. even with the game going gold the game will not be released early. put away the crack pipes oleg ubi releases these flight sims late ....NEVER EARLY.

That's not true.. For people that live near a time zone line, it could get there before it gets there.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I bought Il2 after trying the demo - I didn't think the demo was so great, but I was convinced enough to buy the game so I could fly online.

PF is a big step forward since the original demo - would be good to see a new demo.

I didn't even know IL-2 existed until I downloaded the demo. The demo was the awesomest thing ever, and the sole reason I bought the game.

Before that, I didn't even know IL-2 existed, though it had already been out for a month or two.

I agree with Fennec. Was introduced to IL2 by the demo on a coverdisc. Had never heard of it previously. And here I am, several years later, still buying 1C:Maddox games.

No point in giving a demo to those who already know about the franchise, we have Forgotten Battles/AEP and some of the PF planes already. There's more than enough buzz about the release in the flight sim community.

Also not much worth in giving a demo before general release to those who don't know about it yet. They don't know about it, so it doesn't matter when they see it. May even get more sales if newbies can play the demo and, if they like it, immediately buy a product already on the shelves.

My tuppence. I'm happy to wait http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi,

I agree in a way; the demo introduced me to Il-2 - I doubt I would have purchased a game from an unknown developer with a dodgy picture of a Russian aircraft on the box had it not been for the demo.

Having said that, this was before Il-2 had become established; I suspect most people nowadays have purchased FB/AEP etc because of word of mouth from friends or the praise it gets in magazines and such like.

Cheers,
Norris

Demo's are more and more finnished some time AFTER the game is finnished and in stores.

this is due to many reasons, mainly publishers, pushing games to be finnished ASAP. and then the developers have to use loads of time to fix bug's later...

thats one of the reason for the late demo's

The original Il2 demo came out a few months before the game, and was as much a technology test for feedback as it was a demo.

Given that Maddox games was an 'unknown' at that time, and the sim was all about a theatre little considered before a demo made good sense.

I hope there will be a demo, then all those who went 'yuck' at Silly W***ers Over Nowhere or Jetfighter 66 can check out the real deal.

Simmers rarley need demos - they will buy or not on the reviews and word of mouth.
But it's for those considering a sim that demo's are the draw.

Still given the cheap price of the original Il2 now it could almost be considered as a 'why not if it sucks it wasnt much anyway' game that serves as a good introduction to the newbie.
