Well its true, it nearly happened, they equipped an IXC with rockets to attack The US. They almost developed Anti shipping rockets for the type XXI! to hunt escorts, yikes! Artical and pictures over here. (http://www.uboataces.com/articles-rocket-uboat.shtml) Must read - very very interesting!

Would have been a nice 'what if' upgrade in SH3...

Hmmm, interesting indeed, but still.. How would they aim the thing from the U-Boat??

I guess it would have all been done with maths, there would have been no way to aim the weapon with the boat submerged.

I read somewhere that they also tried mounting AA rockets on the U-Flaks that would trail cables to entangle strafing and dive-bombing aircraft (similar to a barrage balloon)

Known as SP-Anlage, the device could accurately pinpoint the location of surface vessels and enabled anti-ship rockets to be fired up from below. The rockets however were still under development when the war ended. This project was named Project Ursel.

After the war, this concept led to the US and Soviet ballistic missile submarines of the 1950s. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
