Recently there were some interesting threads about field units using higher than "allowed" boosts for emergency situation at all sides

what about adding an option to BOB to allow overboost, but with increasing risk of "mechanical failure" the longer the engine is tortoured http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

might be an intresting option to stress the enemy pilot to the point he kills his engine by himself http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

You can kill your engine now if you use a boost method for too long but each plane is factory perfect so it takes ages to do this.

If some of these engines had poor manufacturing defects or were 150 hours old, then flying with MW50 for 30 minutes straight you might have problems. As it is now, you can fly with any boost for far longer than was ever allowed in operations, somewhich would murder and engine if used like they are in this sim, either be it because of engine failure or maintaining some form of engine life.

I'm aware that the engines are "over perfect"

but you should not mix up operational limits and mechanical failure

mechanical failure can happen anytime or for sure when you exceede physical limits of plane/engine parts

operational limits were often to improve engine life time by keeping well within mechanical limits

some units systematicaly overreved their engines. They had no significant increased number on engine failure, just more maintenance required and reduced engine life time

the idea is a trade off, over perfect engines at normal performance to make sure you don't have your engine quit when the mission just starts

an unrealistic high chance of engine failure when going over operational limits (pilots decision)

just an idea how to get "controled" mechanical failures in the game, not realy important
