Yess! At 1600x1200 with 4xAA & 4xAF I get on average 2-3 more FPS than with Cat 5.8 in Black Death and Kamikaze02. Superb image quality.

Seems I'll definitely stay with 5.9.

Meaning? Better than 5.8?
If so... in what way?

(I'm not downloading myself for now, as in my case upgrading would mean re-installing the software + updates for my Pinnacle PCTV-Pro card http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif)

Have Fun!

No fps increase here using X800XL.

But still getting that annoying blocky text bug in perfect. This bug only happens during artillery explosions on the ground.

http://phantomfighters.nrgservers.net/Coastie%20Pics/IL2PF%20text%20bug.jpg

To reproduce, You must be in Perfect mode. Start QMB, choose Crimea map, be sure AAA is chosen as defense. Start mission and crash plane into ground immediately. Now use camera view and look towards horizon at ground level. When the artillery hits the ground you will see the errors.

To take it one step further, during the error, hit the escape key. Now the menu will look like this:

http://phantomfighters.nrgservers.net/Coastie%20Pics/ATI.IL2FB-bug.jpg

Whoever can reproduce this, please post here and do an ATI catalyst feedback report.

Thanks

Same bug here on X800 Pro

also unrelated to Il-2 there is the issue with .wmv playback...

IT's reverted me to getting those occasional unusual odd glitches like infinite props etc. Never got that with 5.6, but did with 5.7 so rolled it back. May have to do so again.

oh, Radeon 9600 TX, perfect mode.

My initial FPS in Black Death are down from 5.8. Might try a driver reinstall and retest FPS tomorrow.

I loaded the 5.9 and got exactly the same BD numbers as 5.5, the one it replaced. I would say its the first time in a long time that I wasn't sure image quality had moved forward.

Is the .wmv bug something that would cause msn.com to want to load IE6 onto my drive to show me that airbus landing at LAX? I've got the latest and greatest from M$ and media player hops up and plays that stuff usually. I have firefox set to default browser so I figured it was objecting to that for obvious reasons.

Coastie, I've seen the block text, but only online, I saw it with 5.5 first, I'll take a screenie and report it to ATI if I can force it.

I haven't seen the graphic anomallies shown here in any of the patches from 5.2 and up. But, I still get a glitch that was present when we were having issues from 4.10 to 5.1 This glitch is the one that shows an ac that another m8 is flying looking like a cheap piece of either hot pink plastic or neon green plastic. It doesn't happen often, maybe once or twice a month and only when I am hosting coops. But I have seen it in every patch release from 4.10 on.

Oh, and every once in a while my map will start doing crazy things like turning psychedelic on me.

None of the m8s I fly regularly with and also host missions ever see the plastic planes either. And I have reformatted several times for several different reasons but this glitch always shows itself. Strange to say the least.

Coastie,

I had the same and got a tip from someone, if you have Effects=0 set it back to 1.
It works for me.

Also it is recommended http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/uitsnede3.jpg to set parameters to:

Render Open_Gl

Tex Flags Use dither=1
Hardware shaders=1

Specular=2
Specular light=2
Diffuse light=2
Visibility Distance=3

BTW I have a X800 pro.

Good Luck.

Anyone tried it with an X800XT PCIe?

The "three color" Predator view playback? If so, dig around in advanced and disable wmv accelleration/hardware acceleration in the player...worked for me.

fyi..these settings are in the player, NOT the CCC.

I retested fps in BD and Kamikaze02, and I still get 2-3 fps higher with 5.9 than with 5.8, image quality at least as good as before, which means superb. Res. 1600x1200 with 4xAA & 4xAF. CCC's Overdrive turned on, Catalyst A.I. on Advanced. CCC (Catalyst Control Center) working well for me, although many others seem to disgust it.

I'm using an X800 Pro flashed to X800 XT PE, my CPU is a 64 Athlon 3000+ (Winchester) running at 2430 MHz (1800 stock).

Can't complain.

would getting this version give any improvements to a 128mb 9250 card? or is it more geared to the top end cards?

S! Potver, Thanks for the suggestions, but been there done that....no joy! This has been persistent since the 5.6's and the release of 4.01 patch.

Lord Rhah, All Catalyst drivers are universal. If you are using a newer set, lets say within last 3 months, then dont bother. If you are using really old drivers, it can't hurt to try these out. You can always roll back if you are not happy.

Here is a review on the new Cat 5.9:
http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=review&dId=811 (http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=review&dId=811)

This shows I'm not alone in getting slightly improved fps at high settings, as I posted earlier.
