View Full Version : Ok, I've got the new 980XT. Damn there's waves washing up the beach!

I installed my new Radeon 9800XT card yesterday and installed all the accompanying drivers off the CD, then run Forgotten Battles and damn near shat myself with the choppy frame rates and the black untextured water rendering.

Then I said to myself, Crazy, download the latest drivers, you know better! So I download the latest drivers and Holy ****! there's candy I didn't even know was in the graphics before!

A wave affect from the wind washing a shallow wave up the beaches. Water in perfect mode that looks like a million bucks (just like I had seen from screen shots taken from these cards), forest and water settings at full in the "conf.ini" file! and smooth frame rates.

Coming from a G4 Ti-4200, the wave affect is something you simply don't see! and the performance increase is very impressive!

To anyone who may be thinking of upgrading I strongly recommend it, budget allowing of course.

Cheers,
CrazySchmidt. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Not to rain on ATI's parade, but upgrading from a GF4200 to a FX5700 Ultra will yield the same eyecandy results too.

LOL, Maybe a 5950ultra. Do not dare compare a 9800XT to a 5700, That is truely laughable. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I've went from a Ti4200 to an FX5900. It was a huge step up, now Perfect mode will run fast enough to see those great little details. I couldn't believe the first time I saw those waves crashing onto the shoreline. I just circled overhead and watched them, even as the ships kept sending up flak. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

NV30 was still born-but it's not all bad!

As long as you can see the waves http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Glad you're enjoying your 9800!
