Disclaimer: Not an exciting read

January 1943 - BdU has again sent us to the Bermuda Triangle. On the way, we came across a task force. I've often gotten messages about their locations & headings, but they've never been within range for practical interception. Ironically, I ran across this one on my own. It consisted of a Bogue carrier escorted by a Hunter I, a Tribal & 2 River destroyers. The carrier was tempting, but I opted not to attack as the odds & conditions were not very favorable. The destroyers were all in close proximity to the Bogue & my torpedo load was light since I've already had a successful patrol just being off the SW coast of England. I didn't want to push my luck & potentially ruin an otherwise great patrol.

Stingray,
I'm sure it was really tempting to unload what you had at them, but you're right, whatever destroyers remained would have been all over you. Congrats on your successful patrol. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Sadly its pure luck to be in a position that enables one to start success promising attack on a task force.

Task forces are just traveling too fast and its indeed a good idea to avoid a confrontation if the chances are too slim.

I'm glad to hear that you all don't go out of your way to attack a task force.

I thought I was playing to conservative by not attacking them. They are a sure way to get yourself sunk.

In the end, getting home alive is all that matters.

Thanks,
Max

If you sink enough merchies, the battle minded types won't have fuel or ammunition or bread and water anyway.

I would have fired against the CV (if the set up was even marginally positive) and then dive deep , very deep.
I just can NOT stop myself from hitting the FIRE button when I see a TF.
