View Full Version : Secret code in the encyclopedia?

Hey everyone.

I just saw some pictures of the AC encyclopedia from ubiworkshop. It looked like there was a large block of random numbers and letters along the book's spine; to those of you who have the encyclopedia, is this true? Do you think it means anything? It'd be a great spot for hiding some secret message; Could you post the numbers and letters here?

the codes seem to be this:

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/4568/screenshot20110606at112.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/163/screenshot20110606at112.png/)

Just for text reference, the hexadecimal numbers are:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">54 68 72 65 65 20 6c 69 76 65
73 20 74 6f 69 6c 65 64 2e 20
54 68 72 65 65 20 6c 69 76 65
73 20 6c 6f 73 74 2e 20 54 68
72 65 65 20 6d 65 73 73 61 67
65 73 20 64 65 6c 69 76 65 72
65 64 3a 20 74 68 65 20 67 72
65 65 74 69 6e 67 2c 20 74 68
65 20 77 61 72 6e 69 6e 67 2c
20 74 68 65 20 72 65 76 65 6c
61 74 69 6f 6e 2e</pre>
That translates to:

"Three lives toiled. Three lives lost. Three messages delivered: the greeting, the warning, the revelation."

Obviously the greeting was from Minerva ("Greetings, Prophet. It is good that you have come."), the warning is from Juno, and the revelation is from...? Jupiter? Subject 16? Altair?

The characters at the end of the filenames with dates listed are Base64 encodings. You can tell because some of them are padded with one or two "=" characters -- a tell-tale sign of Base64 encoding. I've copied all of those down along with their Base64 decodings. Have fun!

From what I can see of the letters on the spine, all of the secret messages look identical to the ones at the end of the E3 demo. You can find them all and their decryptions in this thread:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...024/m/7011084929/p/1 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/7011084929/p/1)

The funny thing is that the messages that are Base64 encoded that are with the S17.anima text are in all caps on the spine of the encyclopedia. This makes it impossible to decode the messages from the spine accurately, since some of those characters are lowercase letters in the E3 demo.

It seems that these messages are going to be an important theme in Revelations now that we've seen this same code in the E3 demo and on the spine of the encyclopedia.

I believe they'll be the achievements names

I'm wondering if Erudito will do with the encyclopedia what he did with the hoodie, send emails with secret codes for those who bought it.. :P

maybe the password to obtain the Beta 3+ access level in the Abstergo website?! That would be cool... :P

Minerva in AC2, Juno in Brotherhood, and Jupiter in Revelations. Don't see why Jupiter, who's also mentioned, wouldn't be included as one of the three.

Because Venus makes more sense that's why. Besides, the myth with those three goddesses and Eris' Golden Apple was mentioned by Al Mualim twice in AC1. Not to mention that it involves the apple.

Besides, I really don't see where the Capitoline Triad comes in at all. Really, the only thing connecting the gods in the Capitoline Triad is that they were all worshiped on the same hill.

Wasn't Jupiter one of the statues you find in ACII? Also Minerva speaks of Jupiter, you would think he's the next one right?

Venus was amongst those statues as well, also Mars, Pluto, etc. There were 8 in total.

Also, Minerva mentioning the king of the gods is not really much to base such a conclusion on. Just the fact that she existed means that most likely all other important Roman gods did, which would certainly include both Jupiter and Venus.

Ahh hahaha, you're right. Forgot about the other statues.

Good point. I've given up thinking. Just going wait a few more months http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also of note is that Juno is not among the eight statues Ezio finds in Monterrigioni. They seem more like nods to the fact that the Roman gods existed more than important clues.

Just thought I'd point out that the filenames on the spine are all dated before, and around the same time, that Desmond ran away from "the Farm. And that the last full file name to be listed on the spine translates to "Escape"
