Hello,

I have recently seen some great pictures of a few homemade cockpits that people have made, and that has inspired me for my Functional Design class to possibly make one for my end of the semester project. If anyone knows any great links, maybe a forum that offers tips and pointers that would be greatly appreciated. I want to gather a lot of into early to see how hard this is going to be. Thank you all for your help.

Step 1) Go to your local hardware store and buy the following; hammers, nails, liquid sealant, 40 feet of 2x4, 30 feet of 3x2, a few sheets of MDF, a few sheets of aluminium plating, some tarps, paint in appropriate colours and a comfortable chair.

Step 2) Research thoroughly details of your favourite cockpit from avation serise like Ospery or Maru. Draw up detailed and exacting blueprints and plans. Start sourcing cockpit gauges, a full length joystick, smoke machine and a really big fan.

Step 3) Throw your hands in the air and look exasperated. Realise that its too much like hard work, would only take away from your simming time and it a kind of nuts thing to do. Proceed to burn the wood, repaint the house, sell tha aluminium and use the comfy chair to make those 12 hour Hyperlobby sessions that bit more comfortable.

Step 4) Ask someonewho isn't as sarcastic as me for help! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Try this bud:

Akers-Barnes cockpit, this is pretty popular with alot of community members making their own mods to the design.

I made mine off these plans, just need to get some paint slapped on and the wifes approval to replace the corner desk. I plan alot of mods to improve how it looks... just need the time.

ImpStarDuece isn't far from the truth.

Building a cockpit will challenge your knowledge of everything, will cost twice as much as your estimate, and will take 4 times as long as you think.

Good luck though. Its a fun hobby http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hmmmm,

well i wasn't planning on building one like that dude with all the working gauges and all that stuff. I know for a fact i could not do that hahaha. I was goin for a more simpler idea, more like a wooden box in the shape of a cockpick, with shelving units to rest my monitor and joystick on. And then paint it an olive drab or something. I appreciate everyone's help, and sarcastic responces.

ps. thanks for the link scorp!http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
