View Full Version : OT: Support our troops! Boycot starbucks!

Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to
let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they
send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines
thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not
support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops
their
brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by not
buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I
know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't
mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street -to-street and
house-to-house.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know.

Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I
deploy once more.

Also, don't forget that when the Twin Towers were hit the fire fighters and rescue workers went to Starbucks because it was close by for water for the survivors and workers and Starbucks charged them! ! !

Do you have a link to a story that backs this up? Before I boycott a company over something "I read on the internet" I want to know if this is real or just another internet hoax. Well, since I don't drink coffee it won't affect me, but I still would like to know if this is true. If it is true, then they deserve to go out of business.

By the way, Tim Horton's, Canada's nation-wide coffee and donut shop has opened an outlet in Agfhanistan to service our troops there.

Well done Wilhelm for sharing this with us!
All I can say is that "God is not mocked" and if what you say is true these people are just looking for problems!
It might be worth your while to contact national TV networks with this, I know the BBC would be very interested in a story like that if it is true.
I do not frequent Starbucks its to God D** exspensive and I will certainly not use them now!

Oh boy you people are gullible. Well not Kaleun1961.

Starbuck's did not diss G.I. Joe (http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/starbucks.asp)

They did charge 9/11 rescue workers though.

Strabuck's stupidity (http://www.snopes.com/rumors/starbucks.asp)

However it was a local employee, apparently Starbuck's did make amends by providing free coffee and later donating money to the victim's fund.

Still gotta check things out before believing everything on the internet.

JoeAp is right ... Always check SNOPES.COM first, purveyor of internet truth. Don't turn this into a INTERNET PANIC.

As a military man, I've had nothing but good service from Starbucks. Their prices are a little high, but its "damn fine coffee" as Agent Cooper would say!

I will also add that they sell their whole bean coffee brands in our military commissaries at ridiculously low prices. One pound of french roast is about $5.99. I buy it and brew it myself. One bag lasts me about 3 weeks.

My daughter (being a bit politically minded) had always boycotted Starbucks so, being a loyal dad, I did the same. Then eventually I just had to get a coffee and had only Starbucks available. Great coffee! They also (in my town at least) happily provide gallery space for pictures or photographs, free of charge - yes, lots of small places do that, just for a bit of decoration, but a global company like Starbucks has no need.

Tim Hortons, on the other hand, have an enormous community commitment - check out their "Community and Goodwill" menu on their (very attractive) website (http://www.timhortons.com/en/index.html). I once heard that there was a "Timmy's" in Dublin but I can't find any reference to it online - though a few of their shops dotted around Europe would, I'm sure, make a pleasant change from all the Macdonald's, Starbucks etc.

I admit to being duped, twice, by bogus emails and the like. So as the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me." So, I am not being hard on WS about this, knowing I have been in the same boat. And I'm sure we have all learned something from this one, about being hasty to anger. It's the hook line of these sorts of things that gets us upset and eager to do something.

Me too! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif You should not be able to see through coffee...it has to be brewed that deeply.

Actually, Starbucks French Roast reminds me a lot of the German Kaffe that you would get in the Gasthaus. Very dark and strong.

Funny story !

As i just for fun searched for some classic Kaffee and Kuchen pics on the net, i ended up on a Wikipedia article telling me that the "Kaffeeklubben" islands are the most northern part of the Americas.

There my eye catched this world map which is propably the first one ever made to include the "new world" on it.

Or at least as much of it as was explored at this time.

And guess who made this map ?

A german named Martin Waldseemüller who MAYBE even is the one (of actually two people ) responsible for giving the name "America" to the whole continent (named after the italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci)

Martin Waldseemüller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Waldseem%C3%BCller)

Matthias Ringmann (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthias_Ringmann)

Wait .........no official license or allowance to use the name "America".........plus over 200 years....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

After all...you can be happy that you arent the United States of Columbia http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif or the United States of new Europia http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The_Silent_O

Old Herr Waldseemüller sure drew "America" small, little did he know how big it was! How could he predict such great cultural highlights like:

McDonalds...
Starbucks...
DisneyLand and World...
Miller Lite...
Britney Spears...
Football (Cheerleaders)...
Texas BBQ...
NASCAR...(where else could you watch cars go in circles for three hours)... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Ah, The new world!

Of course ... the real draw to the new world came from the most important product of TOBACCO! Without it, America would still be run by the natives (bit of exageration, But Tobacco is what made America, love it or hate it)

I sense an opportunity here for Krispy Kreme to muscle in on Tim Horton's. I'm not a coffee drinker, never have been and never will, because I can't stand the taste of coffee [and beer, wine, whiskey, etc. Must be my taste buds] but I have heard this: Krispy Kreme has better doughnuts and Tim Horton's has the better coffee. I may be called unpatriotic, but I like KK's doughnuts better [see, even though I prefer the American product, I spell it the Canadian way: doughnut, not donut]. Don't get me wrong; I like TH doughnuts as well, but KK's are better to me, and they stay fresh longer. I've had a KK doughnut that is three days old and is still edible. But since there are three Tim Horton's in my town and the nearest KK is 15 miles away, it's TH if/when I have a doughnut. There are very few Krispy Kreme outlets in Canada; maybe a couple in the whole Toronto area. I'm surprised they haven't caught on so well. I think it has something to do with the patriotism of the typical Canuck.
