First off, note the Final GUI. It is subtle, but you will notice some additional options in the FPS/Scenery manager. You can have a true bare bones mission with planes only, or a fairly nice scenery.

Most importantly, the Random Generator is fully functional again. Better yet, now the Random settings are called "Rules" setting, because you can apply them while building a mission, as opposed to only having them available when you generate Random missions. So, if you want to have only 1941 planes available, and you do not want to think which ones they are, simply check the option, and go directly to the DB with the correct planes avaialble. After choosing the plane, you get to fine tune in the flight editor.

I am now updating the old Net 1, Net 2, and Net Islands templates to incorporate new FB and UQMG features. Once I update the existing maps, I'll release the new UQMG. As I design more templates for different maps, I'' release them as simple upgrade patches.

And yes, of course, as soon as the FB update is released I'll update new planes and weapons.

This is just too damn cool!

I gotta give it a try. Does it have to minimize FB to go into your editor GUI? I just know that FB has issues with Alt-Tab and such.

Thanks alot!

Do you know DCG?
http://members.shaw.ca/lowengrin/

I know the difference of Campain/QMB, but final both have to generate IL2 missions

if you contact Paul, you two might be able to exchange some experience and maybe even code for mission generation.

PriK,

Yes, unfortunately, you must do an Alt-Tab. In some video settings there are issues. Best thing is to try different settings. In general DirectX seems to work better because it is native to WindowsXP, but I have not had many problems with OpenGL, at least in my computer, which is far from optimal.

Fornixx, Machine II, maxenthor, UCLANUPE, commie1, hobnail, MackZ, rcorporon, jobace, Extreme One

Thank you, and I will release it as soon as possible.

dbuff,
No, not quite the desert yet... But I have been busy nevertheless. I owe my wife many dinners... I owe her big. I am surprised she didn't leave me when Forgotten Battlers was released. She's a keeper.

Abraxa
I believe that you will enjoy this version much more. There are numerous improvements.

avimimus
How are ya? Always glad to hear from old war buddies... he he

quiet_man,
Yep, lowengrin is one of the old guys in the IL-2 circles. I have not talked to him in a while. The differences in our applications are enormous though. Essentially the mission file format is open source, so as long as you undertand the sintax of the misssions, it is just a matter of writing an application that generates them... so if you think about it, my mission generator simply writes text files... in another word... it is an overglorified text editor... any programmer would be able to vouch for that... the thing is that there is a lot of code in the application to generate the RIGHT sintax, there is the challenge. You would not imagine how complex keeping track of regiments... sounds silly but it is true. I virtually had to design a multidimentional array in order to keep track of all assets. In certain ways, generating a quick mission in the way that UQMG does has its own complexities... and you would think it is just the opposite, considering that DCG and DGen generate several missions...

I thought about exchanging tips for tricky things, like placing waypoints for level bombers or preventing flights from crashing into each other (sometimes the AI is very very dump)

from testing you might know this long bomber escord missions where the attacking planes ignore the bombers, the bombers drop their bombs 500m in front of target and the mission finaly is lost cause of the bombers crashing into each other when trying to land. Then you sit in front of the "reflight" buttom and think **** /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

UD,

This is just great news! The Birds of Prey used the UQMB in IL2 to set up squadron practices. It's just fantastic for that purpose. Also, offline single missions are a blast.

We have been eagerly waiting for your return and the IL2FB update. Fantastic service to this community!!

I repeated the word IS-4 (a very beautiful, polymorphic 1941-2 russian aircraft) too many times at Il2center and nearly got ostracised!
I'm doing very well, how are you?

avimimus,
Well can't please everyone, but it is good that you are doing well. Me? too busy really... I rarely get time to log on these days.

nicolas10,
Thank you. I hope to have it out soon.

h009291,
Good news is IL-2 patches and updates are not an issue. My program relies heavily on script files that I update. Once new planes, weapons and changes are applied, I simply release a patch for my program that coincides in version number with the current IL-2 release. My current users of the IL-2 version got updates whenever a new add-on came on. The only time this would change is if they decided to completely change the mission sintax... and that is not likely.

quiet_man,
He he... about Notepad... actually if you have Windows XP home edition, you get the benefit of using the slightly improved Notepad which allows Search and Replace text strings. Notepad is a very important part of UQMG. I use it to build scripts... neat-o huh? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

"I thought about exchanging tips for tricky things, like placing waypoints for level bombers or preventing flights from crashing into each other (sometimes the AI is very very dump)"

That is a hard one... sometimes you just cant fix what AI does, and I think that this new upcoming patch will fix most of the issues... One problem is that some planes in AI mode will not take off from outside airfields... if they fix that, I'll be able to do some other neat things with UQMG.

dbuff,
Thank you for your continued support. I really appreciate the kind words. I do it for the community and hopefully it makes Oleg's product more fun.

BPO6_GoldenWing,
Again thank you. I am glad to hear people are using the Coop features also. Although UQMG was originally developed as a compromise between QMB and FMB, I thought, why not generate the same mission at the same time for Coop? Then the player can decide to play it as an Off line mission, or go to the Coop setup and play it with friends... and it is all done automatically.

it costs nothing to be nice.

by the way, have you ever approached Oleg about incorporation you work of art into FB?

I am surprised they havent tried to contract you since this is superior to the QMB in game.

S!

XyZspineZyX

As soon as I had a semi working prototype I sent an e-mail to Oleg. He seemed happy about it. When I started to exchange E-mail and posts with him, he told me we could work together in developing apps for IL-2. I was picked as one of the Beta testers for the original IL-2 so right away I became familiar with the inner workings of the IL-2 engine.

I loved the simplicity of QMB, but I thought it could have been developed further; not to put any of the people who programmed it; it was just a personal project.

Once FB was announced some people asked in Oleg's forum whether UQMG would work with FB and Oleg, to my surprise, made a funny comment to the effect that yes, UQMG would would also work with FB. So... perhaps someone at Ubi or Maddox Games has tried it. I am not sure, but if they did, I'd be honored.

I'll keep working with it while there is an interest in it. It truly would be nicer if it could be fully integrated with the FB GUI, but I am sure it would involve some complexities. IL-2 and FB have a lot of Java in it, more than most C++ programmers would like to admit, that is just the way ot goes. The GUI is in Java also.

My little program is written in VB. There could be an interface but it would take some time.

Plus, my real-world career is very unpredictable. I could be here today, and on the other side of the world the next day.

Of course if they wanted a combined project, I am sure I would jump at the opportunity.
