I love squads they can really add a lot to the on-line game experience.

However I would like any squad members out there to reflect a momment on the effect they can have on a server.

As a server admin can I ask squad members to concider the following.

Please don't unbalance a server, if needed split into the two sides. If your squad is red only or blue only then I'm afraid you may need to invest in your own server.

Squads have their own ethos and spirt, this is great but on someelses server it must come secondary to the ethos and spirit of the server. If a server rule contradicts a squad rule then don't fly there.

Don't ignore the other players, your part of a team. After all you might end up recruiting some quality members.

Spare a momment for other players, a squad on mass can be intimidating (or atleast seen as such).

Thanks.

Not to brag (too much) but our squad server -334th- has been really hopping lately. We have seen a flurry of new membership requests, the server is almost always near capacity, and we have seen many other squads (especially 69th) flying together regularly against us. That last point is imho one of the best as it helps to pull the squads together and pushes us to all to improve our flying.

I cannot recommend enough the value of finding a squad that is right for you and flying with them regularly. It WILL drastically improve your flying, shooting, and tactical skills. Plus it is great fun to have a team to fly with.

I absolutely agree with merlin that it can be intimidating to face a squad - but that is the point isn't it? We train and fly together because it is the BEST way to fly and fight - which is the point after all. The guys flying alone and unorganized will always be at a disadvantage to even two guys using TS and proper tactics. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm not dissing squads in any way, just asking for a bit of thought.
It's like when you go down the boozer with a load of mates, you can get abit carried away to the detriment of the other drinkers.

Unless he uses external view to radar the enemy's wherabouts.

Not that it matters (as obviously it doesn't), but close the pits and I'll fly there too. The only reason I'd fly open pit is to see all the fancy skins I have and can never see until I watch my ntrks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I wish we would close the pits too - but I am well in the minority on that point. For me the trade off is worth it to fly in a full server with many people on TS and squad mates who know how to wing up and work together. The interesting thing lately is that the maps are split vertically - there is the usual bunch of low flyers on the deck catfighting & now a regular group of guys on the roof at 7-10,000M.

I used to love 334th server, its where I learned to fly.

Is it still Arena style dogfighting with the same planesets on each side?

I prefer the historical planresets these days, but 334th will forever be in my heart.

Since you are an open pit server why not just turn off the icons? Icons in an open pit are not bad... just as icons in a closed pit are not bad either. Thats what I do when I fly open pit. Sometimes I turn off the icons in the pit as well.. but I have a hard time seeing things without them. I have lost tally with the target right in front of me... and I know that IRL it wouldnt be that way.... so we like to keep icons on.. we just have them very tight so that yiou dont get the 4k red/blue writing popping up on the screen. Suggest to your squad to try the open put without the icons.... They might like it.... Oh wait.. you cant do that.... then you would have no way of knowing who is who since you dont use historical planesets. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

There is a cheaper solution. If one squad raids the server and doesn't want to split, they could also invite another squad for playing on the opposite site.

I am so joyful this isn't a problem in co-ops. No squad can intimidate me, when I am flying against them with my super-hero Oleg-boosted AI comrades on my wing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Yep - nor do we have consistent identifiable skins http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif It is interesting what planes end up on top of the heap in the stats - currently the Spit 25lbs is at the top of the heap regarding pure # kill wise, but its K/D is only 1.14. The aircraft with the best K/D is the Fw-190A-6 with a 2.03 - which probably the same spot it would have regardless of pit settings.

The icons are not super long range, but the friendlies are set longer than the enemy which just means that when you see icons and a dot without you know who the enemy is http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
My biggest complaint is the darn dot settings - I'm flying with a 27 lcd and there are many times I cannot pick a dot that others can see.

+1 from me as well. I tend to veer to full real/switch whatever term is popular these days.

But my opinion does not count as I am such a rebel I don't play well with others. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif

Have you ever discussed locking the pits with the rest of your squad? I have several members that use to frequent your server. I however never have because of wonder women view. If you guys got the bandwidth perhaps you could do what UK dedicated has done. They have UK ded 1 and UK ded 2. Number 2 has locked pit and runs close to historical matchups and missions. I prefer FR servers but dont mind flying in a external on server as long as pit is locked and I feel many share my view.

I really hope Oleg was listening when many of us were pleading for an option to still have externals on...like F2 and F8 but be able to turn off F6 and other padlock features. It would terrific if you could join a server with externals on and still BnZ effectively. And still have camera views of target areas.

Oh, and I agree unbalanced teams are no fun. My squad will split up when needed to make teams even. Personally I rather be on the team with less people any day. More targets which means less noobs trying to steal your kill. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Yes - most are stuck in the same place I am as far as that goes: its great having 35+ players in the server nearly 24/7, and there are other open pit squads who now fly against us on a regular basis that are really good. As you pointed out there are closed pit servers that always have capacity, if we closed the pits we would lose half the people that come to the server who prefer open pit. We just reset 2 weeks ago or so and we've already seen 2500 players! Even with the pit open its still plenty easy to get killed - I'm better at it than anything else http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif
