View Full Version : Dynamic Kill Markings?

A thought came to me the other day, though it's a minor detail I think it would be fun to implement in PF and/or BoB if it could be done and if time permitted.

What about implementing dynamic kill markings? After a mission offline, or even online would it be possible for the program to tally the air and ground kills the player and other AI aircraft got and put the kill markings on the side of the aircraft automatically by the next mission?

This would be pretty cool I'd think, because if you got close enough to an enemy plane to see the markings, you may get an idea of just how good an ace he was. Could be a lot of fun for the online players as well to have their planes decorated accordingly as they play.

Don't know if it's a good idea or not, but thought I'd throw it out there. Seems like it would be a fun feature to have. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes, that would be very cool, along with blind AI in the clouds, and a rating index skins for AI handicap to spot & target player's aircraft based on skin used in relations to the map/season.

Heh.. imagine Ju88 (we are suppose to get that bird flyable in future patches) formation and when you fly close to them you actually see ship markings on leaders tail http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I agree that would be one immersion booster more. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I second that. Especially the all seeing AI in the clouds kills my nerves.

To play devil's advocate-

somebody had to paint those kill marks on.

In FB, I commonly have simply opened up a custom skin in Paint, and added victory marks, then saved it as another name

BOB would indeed be a leap forward if Oleg can implement kill markings that update as you go along and play the campaigns (for offline campaigns in particular).

I know what your saying Chuck, but I was also thinking about your wingmen, and the enemy aircraft that you encounter. It would be really nice to see they have more personality to them with each plane having the appropriate kill markings, that changes as they acquire kills in a campaign or online, not just your own planes markings.

Definately would add to the immersion. Perhaps even Wingleaders and such could have planes with custom paint jobs like in real life.

I also vote for jagdmailer's idea of making the AI not be able to see you when your in clouds, as well as any improvement in the AI would be welcome http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I believe Janes WWII Fighters had a similar feature (though it was buggy, and really never worked). Not that that has anything to do with anything.

I agree it would be a fine addition, but I figure why stop there? Oleg did a pretty good job with 'markings' in this sim, I think he should take another big step, and add large amounts of dynamic markings (also known as 'decals' I think), not just kill markings, that adjust/advance over time. Such as exhaust stains, general 'dirt', mud/dust about the wheel wells, 'aninimated' damage (think stressed metal skin ripping, oil dripping, etc).

I know I know, not possible on todays computers. Well maybe tomorrow then.
