My 10yr kid has suddenly taken to IL2 in the last few weeks. I made a pilot (set to easy mode) for him to play with. He usually plays single missions shooting at things that are 'galaxies ' away.

Sooo, there my 'better half' and I are doing bits around the house, and there's suddenly screams of excitement from the computer room.
"Dad, I can take off, I can take off, come and look at this".
OK, I think.. easy mode is.. well.. EASY. Let's make him happy and off we go back to the pc.
He jumps into a BF109 single mission. and starts up. What happens next is amazing.

He slowly pushes the throttle forward, and the BF begins to move. More throttle and the plane starts swinging to the left. His feet can barely touch the rudder pedals as he corrects for torque. HEY - what's the torque doing there in easy mode ??. Plane speeds up and it's centered on the runway. He rotates and lifts off immediately pulling his gear up.

"I BELIEVE I CAN FLY.. I BELIEVE I CAN TOUCH THE SKY" he sings, as the bf zooms into the sky.
I laughed as I didn't actually like that song when it came out years ago.

So the question - What's the torque doing there ??
I ask him to stop and I go to the difficulty screen.... and see my pilots name there. He had switched to my pilot which is set to 100% difficulty - I gave him a big pat on the back and smiled - "Well done.. that was just as good as me" I told him. He had this little smile and went back to flying.
I walked off with a 'sense of pride'

Ha, that is awesome, good for him. With the narrow gear the BF-109 can be tricky to take off and land. Has he landed it yet?

Quick sign him up to the Luftwaffe we need pilots!

Excellent thread, Great Kid, intellegent, knows what games to play and quick on the uptake. Tell him for me that it took me six weeks to get to that level. Why am I jealous?

But now you might just have another reason to watch your six!

Maybe propwash isn't considered torque?

ADD:

He's at the right age, you might want to get him a copy of this book:

for sale cheap through Amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/How-Make-Fly-Paper-Airplanes/dp/B000L4GCKW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1224966254&sr=8-1)

He doesn't just show how to make the glider, he teaches how it works though his explanation
on the wingtip winglets is NOT today-correct no matter that it works. The man who wrote the
book (for kids on up) is one of the early aviation pioneers who knew the Wrights when he was
a kid back in the start of it all, he shows his pilot's license -- it's # 2. Go figure.
He went on to become a naval aviator, a big name in history.

site that shows how to build the paper glider (http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-the-Barnaby-Paper-Aeroplane/)

We take turns on 'My computer', as there are times he just sits and watches me. Of course I just talk away telling him what and why I'm doing a particular thing. He must have been listening to me !!
