Well, i've been playing around with dgen quite alot lately, changing planes available to more realitic operational dates for the dgen campagnies that i like flying, and i thought what about the me262 flying bomber intercepts. As i have BoE, i just added the me2621a to right berlin44 dat file (and took it out of dday)and away i went. I know the campaign starts around a month before the me262 became operational, but i couldnt be bothered to change the start date for a month.

Anyway, campagin played with limited icons (just freindlys at 500m, dist only) speedbar on, no externals to stop myself with sneaky peaks, cockpit on, my map icon on since i cant navigate for poo, instant success on, starting as leutenunt.

1st june 1944
I have been reasigned to Kommando Nowotny, my reputation has obviously got out, Nowotny asked for me himself, I am to be part of the worlds first operational jet unit, a great honour

8th sept 1944
After months of training, today i flew my first operational mission in an me262. I was commanding the second flight of 4. We were told to scramble, and once airbourne were vectored to intercept a flight of bombers, suppossedly attacking a bridge NE of berlin. We are told that some 190's are already on station. The first flight of 262's held an altitude of 5000m in our patrol zone along with 8 190's, while i climbed to just under 7000, and throttled back to hide my exaust trails telling my swarm to keep there eyes peeled and to loosen fromation. We flew for another ten minutes like this, with an ever rising sense of nervousness creeping up on me, Suddenly contacts, the radios are alive. Enemy fighters are sweeping down on our fighters below, coming in from the east and above, but none seem to spot us up here. I resist the urge to dive in and hold my altitude, but head east, sensing the bombers must be coming soon from here. I can hear friends calling for assistance below, people fighting for there lives, but my orders are to attack the bombers, and i intend to do my duty. Then to my 2o'clock i see contrails, lots and lots of contrails. I quickly scan the sky around them and see no more fighters, Attack the bombers i order my men, and we turn and come in fast from there 3o'clock. I target a bomber, a b17 about 2/3'rds back in the formation, damn these things close fast, my shots fall behind him as i shoot through the formation. Then a dull thud, i panic and despreratly scan the instruments, to see that engine 2 gas pressure has dropped, its still on, but no power is being produced. I roll over a dive down to 5000m, passing over command to my no.2 This is no place to be on one engine. I shut down engine two, certainly not wanting an engine fire, trim for one engine, and run for home at speed. Even on one engine, i'm still flying well over 700 ias as i shallow dive home. I scan the skies around me and what was a few seconds ago full of planes is now empty amd peacefull. I'm now at around 2500m when I see my airbase to my 10o'clock. I scan the sky again, knowing that when i commit to landing there will be no turning back. Unable to see anything, i start to deaccelerate and empty all my rounds. I touch down slightly to fast but I didn't want to stall out on only one engine, and come to a halt just off the runway. While i am walking back to the hangers our AAA opens up, enemy fighters, bugger this, i run to a bunker and wait for the all clear.

Later on i find out that we lost 1 KIA and have 1 WIA in hospital, i heard the 190 guys lost heavily though. The rest of the guys got 5 bombers between them. I vow to do better next time.

14th sept 1944
It has been a quite few days, but today we were ordered to scramble again, more bombers we were told. We climb to altitude, and are told that some 109's will be assisting us. Again i take my flight to just under 7000m and set throttle for a high crusing speed without leaving a tell tale sign. Not long after we take station i see contrails heading our way and we turn to meet. I scan the sky searching for escort fighters, but to my amazement, see none. I take the time to set up a head on approach, we are closing at such a speed. I fire a 1 second burst and fly underneath the dissintegrating b17, a slight roll another burst and another fortress at the back of the formation is going down. As i slowly turn, I again search for the escort fighters, and cannot belive our luck, ungaurded bombers! I make another pass and see the wing of a b17 split in two, my first bank of guns are now empty. Two more passes and my ammo is spent, with 2 more b17's accounted for. By now the other flight of me262's has long arrived and the 109's are joining the party. I decide to call off my flight and head from home, only 2 of the 3 answer, but we dissengage and land safely.

Later on the full picture becomes clear, my number 3 was injured and is in hospital, In the other flight, 2 KIA, the 109's also had KIA's, but we inflicted heavy losses on the enemy, 15 of there flying fortress's, with myself being credited with 5. I'm told i'll be up for a medal.

15th sept 1944
i've been grounded today, something about being drunk on duty, couldnt buy a drink last night, no one would let me! Been awarded the knights cross.

17th sept 1944
Today the amis got there revenge. It started like the other days. we were scrambled to intercept a medium altitude target, but were told we were the only available unit in the area. The leader of the first flight stuck to his altitude of 3000m, but i climbed to 5000m to cover him, cursing him silently for being to low. All of a sudden he spots multipull targets below. They dive down on the planes below, mustangs they call, when i suddenly see hoards of planes diving down from above me! I recognise the fat outline of the jugs diving down on us. They set us a trap, and we flew straight into it. I spend the next 5 mins evading and trying to set up a shot where i do not offer myself up, trying to chase down the ponys and jugs, but alwasys there seem to be some above, as i try to help my flight. Over the radio i can hear the desperate screams of my friends as they are shot down one by one. Suddenly i find myself closing on a 47, i fire a 1 sec burst, and he explodes into a million peices. This is when i notice behind me 2 47's closing for a shot. My speed is nowhere near the area i would wish it to be, panicking i point the nose down to pick some speed up, before realising that the jugs will easily gain on me doing this, I start to spiral dive as the first tracers wizz past. My only chance is to get enough speed and then level out and extend. I manage to do this with out being hit, and soon i am climbing at over 600ias. I vow to keep my speed up in this fight at all times. I can still see the two 47s, dots in the distance trying to follow, but no one else. I decide that i'll take the 2 on 1 , after all i still have nearly all my ammo, i have to do something. I start a gentle climbing turn, i'm now at about 5000m. By the time i am back over the 47's i'm at about 6000m, when i notice contacts coming in from above again, i cant belive it, 3 more diving in at me. I evade but take hits. Engine 2 is on fire, i immeaditely shut it down and run as fast as i can. Luckily for me the fire goes out, and i am still at around 5500m. I enter a very shallow dive and firewall engine 1. I head south, well away from my home airfield, i'm just to close to my airbase to risk landing there. I pick an airbase the other side of berlin, and head there as fast as i can go. A few mins pass, i can no longer see any following planes but my engine catches fire again, i seriously consider bailing but then it goes out again. I finally have visual with the airbase i elected to land at and begin to slow down, once again waiting for enging 2, despite being off bursting into flame again. As i am on final it lights again, i come in to slow, and bounce on the undercarrige breaking one wheel and skid to a halt. Quickly the fire truck is here, and i have shut the plane down. Shaking and dripping with sweat, i climb out and am taken away...

Later on i find out, that out of the 8 of us, only myself and one other are unhurt the flight leader of 1 flight, altogether 4KIA and 2WIA, I am credited with 1 kill, a P47. The other guy got 4. he really is an ace. They say they are going to give me another medal. I dont really feel like i've erned this one. I will have 3 guys out of traing for my next flight. I dont know how much longer this can go on for...

Sorry for any typos etc.. I'm just really enjoying flying this campaign at the moment, all the above actually happened in my first three missions and if any of you like the 262 and have BoE, i highly recommend you alter it and have a go yourself. hope you enjoyed the stories

Good read http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Convinced me to start a new Me262 campagne. Its hard to suvive the defensive fire of the b17's whit thouse fragail engines.
