when a hero has superior block, the timing is like a parry, but your hero does an attack into and through your opponents attack, dealing damage. With Warden, his superior block is with a top light just before opponents top attack hits. For some heroes, like Black Prior, their superior block works in all directions (but you can't perform it against unblockable attacks).

Superior block has the added bonus of interrupting heavy attacks, which prevents the opponent from chaining and you from taking block stun. It usually comes in the form of being a light attack's startup. You can watch the animation to see when a shield or the weapon glows orange, this is the part that superior block is active for. Generally the timing is slightly before a parry timing.

It can serve as an option select, counter attacking an attack or a heavy feint into GB which tries to grab a parry attempt's startup.

There's some other examples where superior block exists such as Conqueror all block, Conqueror's heavy attack, and Conqueror's dodges.
