For those with a few program problems... Google these utilities.

1) Trace every registry access
Registry monitor -> Regmon.exe (255.504 Kb).

2) Trace every Disk access
Disk monitor -> Diskmon.exe (118.784Kb).

3) Trace every file access
File monitor -> Filemon.exe (284.176 Kb)

4) Trace every Network Port activity
Port Monitor -> PORTMON.exe (241.664Kb).

5) Trace Windoze Kernel network activity
TDI Monitor -> TDIMON.exe (188.416 Kb).

I'm relocating my website at the moment and will put these all in a zip file later. These progs are CLEAN, Freeware with no hitches and they get the job done. Make sure the file sizes are exact otherwise it might be a dubious clone. Remember Windoze file size is the amount of 'disk space used' by the file, not the actual filesize. I vaguely remember getting these from a WinAsm development site some time ago -> Try Masm Forum (http://www.masmforum.com/simple/index.php) and look/search here.

Thanks for the list BueJack. These should help this knuckle-dragging caveman figure out how the magic works, and maybe reduce my paranoia a bit. These utilities can be downloaded from:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Portmon.html

The link is to the PORTMON.exe page, but just above the download links are other links to the pages for the other utilities. All the files are .zip, so the bit counts are a little lower, but this site was at the top of the Google list, and is linked to by Microsoft's page, so I'm reasonably sure these downloads are clean.
